Midwest Refining to Locate Offices in Basin After November First

The Midwest Refining Company will move its offices to Basin after November first, consolidating staff at Basin except Casper. The firm, a major western operator with county interests, aims to boost Basin as a premier oil center and stimulant for local oil activity. Ohio Oil Company brings in another gas well in Byron

The Ohio Oil company at Byron, last Tuesday afternoon, brought in another large gas well on their holdings. It matches the Neville well in size, which flows more than 2,000,000 cubic feet of gas daily. They have a larger casing down and expect no trouble in control. This makes two of the world’s largest gas wells in Big Horn county with more anticipated. It could lead to large manufacturing establishments and possibly smelters, as cheap fuel attracts business investment.

Fish Fry Shipment Delivered by Story Hatchery Superintendent

Fred W. Cooper, superintendent of the Story fish hatchery in Sheridan County, sent about 45 000 young fry to Paint Rock and Medicine Lodge on Monday. Ernest Moore hauled the shipment in his truck. In a separate note, D L Carr, Mrs M Rhodes, G J Schenk and J P Zane returned from the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows in Sheridan, reporting a successful meeting and a county drive past a sugar factory. Darry was re elected grand treasurer and Brigham grand warden, with Schenk elected to a patriarchal office.

Ten Stall Building Under Construction at Greybull

A new ten stall engine building is rising from the old Greybull roundhouse site. Construction started this week with material on the ground and plans call for completion and full equipment by year’s start. The project, linked with Basin oil development, signals brighter prospects for Greybull and nearby communities. Meanwhile Greybull shipped ten cars of cattle last week, with buyers including Sam Smith, W. B. Hartigan, Perk Davis, M. D. Howard, and Skovgard, who also received 260 Colorado cattle, selling 30 head.

Couple Heads To Rochester For Medical Care

At a special city council meeting last Monday bonds totaling 14000 were issued and sold to Keeler Brothers of Denver to take up the Kats-Craig Construction judgment from Kansas City in federal court. Basin hosts large meeting on proposed national road route

Mayor Berry presided as Progress club leader over a Basin Wyoming gathering backing a multi county road linking nine counties. Holmes and Newton outlined plans to connect Denver to Glacier National Park, with each county raising 100 at once and a local commissioner to oversee completion.

Byron Gas Well Ravages Area as Efforts to Cap Fail

County Attorney W S Collina left Byron after reporting the gas well there as possibly the world’s largest, with 250 million feet escaping daily. The Wyoming Montana Oil company struggles to cap the immense flow, burying cemented rods to anchor the casing while awaiting new equipment. Noise from the well is audible miles away, and the firm hopes to drill oil once control is achieved.

Buying Sweet Clover Seed Amid Big Harvest Prospects

Mr. Cummings of a Sioux City seed firm spent the week in Basin buying sweet clover seed. He found seed in Burlington country but not threshed, and Lowell country also held unsold stocks. The crop is expected to be a major revenue producer, though totals are not yet estimable.
