Special Rain Demonstration Draws Basin Farmers

A special demonstration train delivered dairy and beef stock displays, with champion pig notable on board. Speakers included Col. Jack Moore and A E Chamberlain, urging diversified farming, closer farmer business ties, and town growth. Evening sessions featured W C Parr and lively slides, ending with an America singalong. Despite rail delays causing lost time, attendees found value in the day’s events.

Ohio Man in Custody Over Marietta Rape Case

Sheriff Wickwire detained Fred Hobbs after a visit by a friend raised suspicions. Hobbs admitted his identity while in custody. Ohio authorities had not issued a notice, but wired for extradition. Hobbs was moved to Denver yesterday under Ohio supervision.

Woodmen Sanatorium program delights Colorado Springs attendees

In a Wednesday event under the Woodmen lodge, a reel titled The Man Who Came Back showcased the sanatorium at Colorado Springs. Mayor Berry spoke on the sanatorium’s upkeep as locals filled the crowded hall, followed by a Smith Orchestra dance that capped a memorable evening.

Brought Back and Local Police Action

Under Sheriff Frank J Rue returned with C Edward Westbrook after a run to Missoula and Spokane chasing unpaid bills and a warrant by County Attorney Collins. A rail police tip led Rue to Missoula where the suspect was caught attempting to depart on a train. Mr and Mrs E A Davie and daughter Margarette returned from California after weeks away visiting fairs and points of interest. Big Horn County Wins Big at State Fair Honors

Big Horn county delegates at the state fair brought home 115 prizes including 60 firsts, 40 seconds and 15 thirds. Grace Ells was champion poultry raiser and Allen Howe champion pig raiser while W S Collins earned top corn awards from Gurney Seed Co. The county swept major agricultural honors and received widespread recognition for its exhibits and stock displays.

Death of Margaret Nash and Basin library meeting highlights

Margaret A. Nash mother of Rev. M. Nash of Basin died after a two week illness from heart failure. Funeral at St. Andrew's Church conducted by Arch Duncan Dray of Douglas. Interment Mount View cemetery. She had recently moved from Los Angeles to Basin. Survived by son and daughter Mrs. Edwin L. Swbin of La Jolla. Second annual Basin state library association conference attended by Grace R. Hebard and numerous librarians and officials from Wyoming libraries and clubs.

Short County Commissioners Meeting Recaps Travel and Adjournment

County commissioners held a brief meeting this week. Harris did not attend from Lowell. Roe Avent arrived from Laramie Tuesday afternoon and left that evening. Spratt and Avent attended a session in the afternoon and the meeting adjourned.

Ridpath company promises a brighter entertainment year

The Ridpath company unveils a program featuring a Panama can musical number and a historical piece in song and story. Lectures by John Merritt Driver and Opie Read are promised, with other notable entertainers to follow. Local road survey reports indicate a feasible route for heavy hauling, and Oil Wall Supply plans to establish operations with Mr. and Mrs. Baird moving to town. Kensington hosts an afternoon of socializing and fancy work, followed by an elaborate lunch. The Will Cook case heads to a November hearing at the supreme court. Tomlinson of Thermopolis acquires the Big Horn garage business from Grant Brown and W W Obram.

New Oil Well Supply Opens in Basin Area

New Oil Well Supply will stock drilling rigs engines and related gear. J 5 Mechling and L D Haird arrived to prepare for business locating in Hasin near the alfalfa mill north of town and securing railroad right of way. The firm plans a warehouse and office and joins National Supply Co as Basin expands oil activity drawing new families and boosting local business.

Court sessions settle many cases this week

This week in court several cases settled, including H. J. Marchant of Cowley as plaintiff. In a 1914 Crosby-Welch v. Tippetts action sheriff seizures of cattle and a horse were tied to payment, Marchant later proving title and recovering $60 plus costs. D0.E.Nowells v Berry Bros awarded $129.92. Welch v Borner dismissed. Sprague v Re Horn Milling settled out of court. Hyde led the Marchant case with co counsel Nowell and Bis Horn Milling Co.

Pleasantly Surprised Birthday Party in Local Home

Mrs R R Denny hosted a Saturday birthday celebration inviting neighbors and friends. The evening featured games and social chat with refreshments. Card prizes went to Mrs Donaldson first and Mrs T M Hyde second for ladies, while Dr M H Smith won first and his brother second among the gentlemen. Grace Dilis Wins At County and State Poultry Fairs

Miss Grace Dilis daughter of Mr and Mrs Josh Dilis earned the counties top poultry honors and was sent to the state fair. She captured tulme ribbons for her trio of chickens and the grand championship for a pullet. She attracted much attention and enjoyed the exhibit on the agricultural fair day special.
