Progress Dinner and Officers Elected for Quarter

The Basin Progress association held a well attended dinner on Wednesday. H. presided as officers were elected by acclamation: President H. G. Ridgely, Vice President W. S. Collins, Treasurer Will Pease, Secretary R. H. Ahrens, with J. B. Thompson, B. C. Hart and O. T. Gebhart on the executive committee.

Greek 18 Captured After Hospital Escape

Steve Brown the Greek who escaped from the hospital last Friday morning was captured about 1 o'clock Friday night by Deputy Sheriff Cusack near Spence. Cusack arrived with the prisoner Saturday afternoon and he is now confined in the county jail awaiting further handling.

Building moved. new warehouse to rise at site

The building occupied by Schenk & Nowell was moved this week. In the space, G. W. Black & Co. will erect a warehouse and garage, with active work already under way on the building.

Bridge Contract Awarded to Great Northern Bridge Co

County commissioners awarded a 13 000 dollar contract to Great Northern Bridge Co of Minneapolis for a 220 foot steel bridge over the Grey Bull south of Burlington. The project uses concrete piers and a wood floor, with aims to produce durable roads and long term savings for taxpayers.

State Fair at Douglas Showcases Best Agricultural Exhibits

At the Douglas State Fair large crowds attended last week. Basin exhibit shows top small grains fruits and vegetables, drawing much attention. Rages were good though no airplane flights occurred. Senator Warren and Governor Carey attended and praised the showings.

County Commissioner Martin Hunts Wolves Near North Fork

County Commissioner Andy Martin, while guarding 400 head of Martin Bros. cattle near Trout Creek at the Sunlight divide, shot and killed three grey wolves from a ravaging pack. He kept the hides and plans to make a coat, inviting Cody hunters to help annihilate the wolves.

Typhoid Strikes Avent Family En Route to Montana

Cicero Avent passed through town early this week on the way to Missoula Montana where his children attend school. Two of his children at home have had typhoid fever and the schoolchildren have now also contracted the disease. Home children are rapidly recovering according to Dr Carter and local friends await a favorable Montana report.

Creditors this week attached the store of M. A. Mitchell and C. J. Robertson was placed in charge for the benefit of creditors. Liabilities are about $3,300 with assets around $45. Mitchell has been in Thermopolis for rheumatism, and creditors fear little realization, especially those not yet taking attachment steps.

Bishop Thomas Coming to Wyoming for Sermon and Confirmation

City Council Meeting Acts on Street Light Request

The council met in regular session with Mayor Booth and Councilmen Higby and Zane pres ent. Minutes from the prior meeting were read, corrected and approved. Residents petitioned for a street light at Seventh and F streets and Bruer & Stanton filed a claim for foil damages from water entering the Danforth cellar.

Admiral Schley Dead in New York

Rear Admiral Winfield Scott Schley, hero of the Spanish American War, collapsed and died on a New York street from apoplexy. A naval funeral is expected and interment likely at Arlington Cemetery.

Moore brothers arrived to begin brick work on the new Danforth building. The crew will push the project to completion as quickly as possible and it is anticipated the structure will be finished before winter.

Austin Town Wiped Out By Dam Break Disaster

A fifty foot wall of water from a broken paper mill dam devastated Austin in Potter county last Saturday. Fire followed the flooding. the town of 3000 was ruined and losses run into the thousands. Four and a half million gallons unleashed a inrush that swept through the valley, killing many and leaving survivors with no shelter as relief trains and the Red Cross moved to aid victims.

Creditable Showing at School Fair

The pupils of our schools displayed a creditable exhibit at the fair drawing favorable comment from visitors. Mrs Bertha Vandevender assistant principal and eighth grade teacher earned the larger share of credit for the display through her untiring efforts that encouraged pupils to prepare their exhibits.
