Adjutant General Visits Basin Cavalry Platoon Armory Plans

Adjt General T J McCoy visited Basin last evening to meet with cavalry officers and men. He tours the state inspecting platoons and arranging permanent organization. The meetup at the library signed on new members while the old stone schoolhouse armory awaits funding for repairs and improvement to become a top state facility.

Louis Biagini Returns From War Service in Germany

Louis Biagini, once a Basin repairman, returned last Sunday after being mustered out at Fort Russell. He served with the First Division in major battles, crossed the pond early, and helped occupy Germany. After parades in New York and Washington, he will resume his Basin business, joining former Burlington resident William Bateman in Montana.

Louis comes home to Basin with his company after service abroad. Friends and family anticipate his return and plan to welcome him as he focuses on making Basin his permanent residence.

Amendments Defeated in Senate Vote on Treaty Reservations

The Fall amendments were defeated in the senate by a 28 to 15 margin as opponents saw no material changes. The vote was procedural to expedite treaty work, with reservations not yet tested and expected to face a later vote after several days.

Prisoners Sentenced After Guilty Pleas in County Court

Two prisoners in the county jail pleaded guilty before Judge Metz this week. Frank Martinez, a Mexican, received a sentence of one year to 18 months for grand larceny. Harold Burke, charged with issuing bad checks at Greybull, drew 2 to 3 years. A sheriff deputy will accompany them to Rawlins tomorrow.

Roosevelt Memorial drive set with county quota

A non partisan Roosevelt Memorial association launches a drive for a national Theodore Roosevelt memorial. The October 20 to 27 campaign targets a $510 quota for Big Horn County. Basin chairman P P Anderson leads a list of precinct appointees with a Basin Basin meeting planned next Tuesday to organize and prepare for the drive.

Reds Take Opening World Series Wins In Ohio

Cincinnati won the first two World Series games in Ohio, 9 to 1 and 4 to 2. Ruether pitched the opener for the Reds with Cicotte Wilkening and Lowdermilk for the White Sox, while Sallee and Williams started the second game. The next three games start in Chicago as nine games decide the title.

Midwest Officials Visit Basin Refinery Tour

H. M. Blackmer of New York president of the Midwest Renning Co. traveled with his son Myron and daughter Margaret, along with Walter Phforzheimer and Mr. Decompigeyner, stockholders from New York, to Basin for a tour of inspection. They visited the refinery and tank field at Greybull with George Jenkinson of Casper.

Omaha Mayor Ed Smith Hurt in Riot Lynching Attempt

Omaha reports say Mayor Ed P. Smith was critically injured after a mob tried to lynch him amid race rioting. A negro suspect, William Brown, was lynched and a white man died as federal troops restored order and the courthouse was set ablaze. Agnes Lobeck was named in connection with the alleged assault.

Married Saturday at court house in Burlington

Justice J R Bonwell united Ewart Ewart and Miss Ruby M Nicholson in marriage at the court house with relatives and a few friends. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Nicholson, a pioneer family, and the groom works as head driller on the deep test well at Burlington. The couple will begin housekeeping near the lease and friends wish them happiness.

Judgment Stay Granted in Republic Sale Case

The Republic sale was postponed after attorney R B Landfall filed a motion in district court to set aside the judgment. The court granted a temporary stay of all proceedings. The sale of the truck taken from G F Altmark during the house raid was not held as advertised last Saturday.

Partnership Formed For Local Law Practice In Pioneer Building

Nelson McCracken, just mustered out of the marines, returned on Wednesday. He was greeted by his mother Mrs. Lara McCracken of Shell Creek and left that evening for home. He is a nephew of Mrs. Al Blake of Basin and was well known locally.

Fine rains this week boost fall plowing prospects

This past week brought two light rains that helped alfalfa fields and left soil in favorable condition for fall plowing. A notable snowfall was reported from several areas as Hig Horns and visitors from Manderson, Mrs. J. A. Quiner and M. A. Price, were in town yesterday.
