Progress Club Receives Quarters and Committee Actions

The Progress association met at the Aptlers with Mayor Berry presiding to accept a tender of ties robinls for the club's rooms. Plans covered fixtures, lighting by the city, and display projects for settlers. Committees were created for furnishings, advertising, road marking, and agricultural exhibits as talks included beet factory prospects and homeseeker rates. Bert Orchard and Dan McFarland visited from Thermopolis.

Basin Proclamation Urges Red Cross Gifts

Mayor J A Berry appeals to Basin residents to donate to the Red Cross to aid suffering people in war torn Europe. The appeal calls on the community to contribute generously as part of a statewide Thanksgiving effort, signed by Clerk Jas F Wera.

Misour Capitol Brick Laying and Divorces Highlight Week

In Jefferson City the first of 5,000,000 bricks for Missouri's new capitol were laid last Saturday with a $3,000,000 cost target if no gold bricks enter. In St Louis divorces were granted to Mrs Albert Sinn and Mrs Alfred B Hell restoring their maiden names. Bridge bonds of $2,750,000 were approved to support terminals and river crossing. Also 200 Irish youths arrived in New York due to war enlistment, singing It’s a Long Way to Tipperary onboard.

Wyoming Candidates for Rhodes Scholarship Rise Again

Wyoming's University sees more students competing for the Cecil Rhodes scholarship this year as the award grants 1500 dollars annually for three years. The winner attends an Oxford college in England with funds covering college life and travel on vacation. Selected young men must show good moral character and engage in manly sports.

Sale Of Oil Property By Sheriff On December

Sheriff Wickwire will sell a large oil property including drilling gear camp outfits and personal effects of Anticline OB Co near Bonanm. Writs of attachment held by James A. Quiver Sykes and Brown and J W Rhoades fund the sale. Property goes to the highest bidder but must reach two thirds of appraised value. Sets of the property are available from the sheriff. Several local old operators are said to have hidden on the site.

Government versus Torchlight locators heard in district court

The government against the Torchlight locators was heard this week before Clerk R. H. Ahrwens with D. T. Joslin as stenographer. Wm. A. Murphy and H. B. Durham represented the government, while Clark J. Tisdell of Muskogee Oklahoma spoke for the claimants to the oil land. The matter is among the county’s most valuable claims and a final hearing will occur next month. Local interest remains high and patent issuance is hoped for, enabling development of the land on a large scale if secured.

Denver leaders plan Colorado No 2 well on strip

W F Blair of Denver president of Cleveland Wyoming Oil company and W K Somers of Crook County visited this week to arrange drilling of Colorado No 2 near the Turolelight claim. Scott Mills will manage the project and drilling to begin soon. John Bihr and Herman Ug of Rapid City left for fund business on Wednesday.

Wyoming Lee Teachers Association Institute in Casper

The Wyoming Lee Teachers Association and tri-county institute will be held in Casper from November 23 to 26. A fine program is planned and a large attendance is expected. It is understood that a second rate will be made by railroads with tickets valid until November 23. Snow of Basin is on the program for an address.

Hunters Return From Rockies Without Elk

Guy Shipman A A Reed and John Arnolt Jr returned Sunday evening from a Rockies hunting trip. They failed to find elk but did secure three fine deer. O A Lamgren and wife depart Wednesday for Gowrie Iowa to spend the winter.
