Weekly Luncheon Minutes of the Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber held a Wednesday luncheon at Spurrier cafe with large attendance. The audit committee Wm Gibson and R R Ferris reported their work and was discharged. H H Hime reported on a produce market with R J Cruce and the road committee for the No wood irrigation project. A committee of Wendell Calhoun and W C Snow was appointed to study the Emblem road repairs. Meetings to continue weekly with luncheon planning.

Basin band to hold free concert at Rex theatre

Basin business leaders fund weekly concerts by the Basin band with a free admission. The next performance is Sunday afternoon at the Rex theatre, drawing praise from H. H. Hime who attended last week’s free show and urged continued public support.

Armistice Day Observed with Bells in Basin

No general celebration occurred in Basin on Armistice Day Tuesday. Whistles blew and the bells pealed in commemoration of the signing that ended the war.

Death of Infant Son

The 2% year old son of Mr and Mrs Fred Moeller of Emblem died last Saturday of an illness peculiar to children. Funeral held on Sunday at Emblem. The beach community offers condolences to the family in their hour of sorrow.

Meeting of Basin Woman's Club Delivers Program

The Basin Woman's Club met November 12 in the library. Mrs Lin I Nobe of Thermopolis, Wyoming Federation president, sent a letter read to members. A varied program included readings, music by a quartet, book review, and talks on American unity and assimilation.

Worland hosts Wyoming press meeting November 6–8

Wyoming Press Association delegates gather in Worland for a three day session hosted by the Worland Grit and the Alfalfa Club. Activities include factory tour at Wyoming Sugar Co. and a banquet at the Dorman Hotel with remarks by W. K. Chaplin and Ruth Ireland.

Basin Area Irrigation Project Begins With First Unit

State Engineer F C Emerson supervised the start of a new irrigation scheme east of Basin. J W Gould and J H Walsh won the bid to ditch the first unit, covering five thousand acres north of the Norwood area, with G J Schenk of Basin as engineer in charge.

Mr and Mrs Neal Anderson and Mr and Mrs J A Coons hosted a bridge gathering at the Coons home in Grandview last Tuesday evening. Bad Woman in the Toils

Grace Gilbert proprietor of a resort in Greybull was arrested on a white slavery charge. She was taken to Cheyenne on Wednesday by Deputy U S Marshal Peter Warramount to answer in federal court. The charge states she furnished funds to transport women to her Greybull resort from other states. P O Smith of the federal department led the case.

Robert Frost and Stella Henderson Wed in Lovell

Robert Frost and Miss Stella Henderson of Lovell secured a marriage license and were married yesterday afternoon by Justice of the Peace J. R. Bonwell. Miss Lethea Waters of Lovell attended the couple as they begin married life amid good wishes from the Sugar City community.

The Markham Arnett crowd has just brought in another large oil well in Texas. Local residents show interest and expect to realize profits from their investment.

Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Peterson hosted dinner with Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Armstrong. Saturday evening Mrs. R. B. West and Mrs. F. A. Little hosted a group including Mrs. R. P. Pearson and others at the picture show with an oyster supper. Thursday gatherings included the widows at bridge hosted by Mrs. R. P. Pearson and a theatre party with Mr. and Mrs. Hyde and others followed by luncheon.

Death of Mrs Rolla Pageet at Welling School

Mrs Rolla Pageet a teacher at the Welling school south of Manderson died late yesterday of scarlet fever. The burial plans were set with the Gibson undertaking parlor and funeral arrangements to follow. She was 32 and survived by daughter Mary Catherine aged five. Pageet who came from Colorado Springs was well liked by her students and patrons.

Mexicans in a Fight Hearings and Bond

Aurelo Ribera and Antonio Rom enes, two Mexicans, were heard by Justice Bonwell on assault with intent to rob Tom Flores. Flores says Antonio shot him and broke a glass eye during the attempt. another Mexican is wanted. West represented the state. both men were bound over to district court in $500 bonds they could not meet and were jailed.

County Bonds Sold in Special Meeting

The county board of commissioners Welch Olney and Weintz met in a special session to sell funding bonds totaling 50 300 dollars. Several bidders were present with Lumberman’s Trust Co of Portland Oregon the top bidder through Attorney Weld of Greybull. The premium accepted was 1 130 75 dollars, over $400 above the next bid.

Oil Prospect Prompts Otto Drill Near Otto

W. A. Mundell ex-newspaper man San Francisco and S. B. Milisich Reno merchant with H. L. Perkins Otto plan to drill near Otto after inspecting oil prospects. They secured leases and will begin drilling when acreage is sufficient, backed by ample funds. Local sentiment is hopeful Otto could become an oil city within a year.

Settlers Sought as Basin Chamber Promotes Lands

The Basin Chamber of Commerce distributes The Republican to encourage inquiry about Basin lands. It notes government waste in the castor bean program where 3,000,000 gallons of castor oil were needed for allies and billions in claims against the government, now reduced to about 3 million. A bill aims to hold an international congress in Washington on cable and radio development, while U S cable control limits American messaging and censorship.
