Basin Becomes Center Of Oil Well Supply Firms

Basin welcomes Continental Supply and two other large firms to base operations for oil well and related goods as the Grass Creek road expands. Harry Ewing will manage the Continental office with J A Tyler in Basin. Cattle plan shifts follow Lovell shipments amid beet harvests and a nearby oil venture progress.

Regular teachers exam in Cowley Wyoming 1915 schedule

The next teachers examination will be held in Cowley Wyoming on November 26 and 27, 1915. The program lists Friday activities at 8:30 am for Penmanship orthography arithmetic algebra botany and 1:00 pm for Reading literature agriculture political economy physiology physical geography. Saturday schedule includes 8:30 am Geography general history U S history U S civics rhetoric theory and practice reading circle work and 1:00 pm Wyoming civics grammar psychology. Ruth M. Saturday Night Show Showcases Peril of Pauline and MZ Quartette

The Acme theater filled last Saturday night with The Peril of Pauline drawing praise for its striking pictures. A selection of comical reels played before and after, warmly received. The MZ quartet also appeared as a crowd favorite in the program.

Halloween Stage Show Delights Rural Audience

A fine program featured Warren Dalley Court Pritchard Mark Morris and Johnny Arnott as a farmer quartet. The set resembled a cornfield with pumpkin faces carved in pumpkins and pumpkins lit by electric lights. A moving scarecrow on stage drew cheers as Doc Van Slyke. Mrs J A Berry hosted a large afternoon At Home with Halloween decorations and gifts of music from Lucille Coons Lillian Anderson Kathleen ONeill.

More Oil Wells Planned Near Basin by Dufur

W H Dufur who has shown interest in Basin oil and already drilled one well on the Minor claims adjoining the Torchlight property east of Basin has let a contract for three new wells to L B Crall. The Crall rig now in Greybull will move to the new site soon as possible. Dufur and Attorney R B Landfair visited Buffalo this week to apply for a patent to the property and will start drilling once decision favors them. The field is well proven and should become a strong producer, expanding Basin’s oil territory.

Halloween Rock Club Party at Mrs Wise Home

Last Monday evening the Rock club hosted a Halloween themed gathering at Mrs F A Wise home. Assisted by Mrs F H Whitmore Mrs C H Whitmore and Mrs J P Wheeler the setting used dim lights and white robed figures. Five tables hosted dominos pit flinch crokinole and rock the games were progressive and entertaining. Mrs L A Zane and Mrs J A Berry tied for most games won with Mrs Berry taking first and Mrs Zane second. prizes included a mint box and a snake box.

Acme Screens Second Neal of the Navy Episode Shine

At the Acme last Wednesday the second number of Neal of the Navy was shown and praised as better than the first. The beautiful colored pictures drew favorable comment and the series grows in interest, regarded as one of the best ever shown. The Perils of Pauline will be screened tomorrow night along with additional good and amusing films. No better class pictures are now being shown at the Acme.

Midwest Refining Manager Sees Promise in Oil Prospects

R D Brooks general manager of Midwest Refining spent the week in town examining the oil fields and prospects around the region. He expressed strong optimism that the area is on the eve of a large oil industry with wide-reaching effects on fall business conditions.

Pease oil well shot and tied to Basin growth

The Pease property near Basin was shot with 300 quarts of nitroglycerine by Swan son of the Swanson Torpedo company. The blast threw mud high and the drillers began cleaning, facing heavy caves. Cleveland-Wyoming Oil company and driller Mills predict a strong producer, with early output at least twenty five barrels per day as deeper wells are sunk nearby and more pumps installed.

Autos head to Hyattville for show and quartet

A group of joyful travelers loaded with cheerful locals went to Hyattville last Friday evening to see a movie and hear the X-Z quartet. The audience praised the quartet and enjoyed the pictures. C T Douglas will open a furniture and notions store in the old Kershner building this week and has received a carload of goods. Watch for his announcements next week. Mr and Mrs E J Sullivan and baby returned home Monday after trips to Chicago and Omaha. Escapes for the school have arrived and are being installed by Judkins Kane, who also have the Zinn house contract underway.

Distributing Fish and Royal Neighbors Social

A Sheridan county hatchery fish consignment funded by local supporters aided streams. Last Saturday the Royal Neighbors hosted a four person party for Mrs C Hartrantt before her move to California with a pleasant afternoon and shared lunch.

Parcels Post Party At M B Church Friday Night

The ladies of the M B church will host a parcels post party at the church on Friday evening November 1. Admission is ten cents. Refreshments are free. Packages will be offered for sale during the evening.

Sophomore Hallowe'en Party at High School

The sophomore class held a Hallowe'en party in the high school lunch room last Friday. Teachers joined the students for a pleasant evening of games and a delicious lunch. Miss Lauretsen, the history and English instructor, received praise for the event. A Woman's Club meeting is set for next Wednesday in the library focusing on music and drama with daughters of members performing. Mrs. W. A. Hartigan chairs the program. hostesses include Mesdames East er, Robb, H. C. Whitmore, Dickson, Bristow, Nash, Snow, Ewers, Miller and West.

Business Moves On Proposed Show and Relocations

Several changes in business locations are under contemplation. A new feature show will be established at a site location, while one or more current businesses will move to new sites. It is also understood that a new garage will be built.

Election results show states shift away from progressive vote

Ohio defeats prohibition by about 40000 as Bryan campaigns in the state. Massachusetts reelects the Republican ticket and rejects woman suffrage by a large margin. Kentucky gains one Republican congressman, Virginia eyes prohibition, and Pennsylvania remains strongly Republican on local matters. Philadelphia elects a Republican mayor by a 60000 majority and again defeats woman suffrage. Cheyenne and Sheridan reveal shifts in local power, with commissions and city leadership changing hands. Later reports note women’s suffrage was not as badly defeated in New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. A hunting trip near Pahaska ends with a mountain sheep kill after a four day journey in a Davis car. Smith and Preather buy into oil drilling, targeting new wells for the Northwestern Refining company.

Tedman away for several days on county duty

A. H. Tedman county agricultural agent left yesterday for Cowley and will not be in his office tomorrow under his rule due to duties in the north part of the county. A fine baby boy was born to the wife of Walter Davis of Otto last Monday. All concerned are doing well.
