Supreme Court broadens federal rail safety power nationwide

The U S Supreme Court ruled that all locomotives cars and equipment on interstate railroads must comply with the federal safety appliance act. The decision says even intrastate components are part of the interstate system and fall under federal jurisdiction, enforcing safety standards across state lines.

D Clem Deaver of Burlington sends a telegram to local agent R P Ross asking the Republican and Rustler to publish a note praising Frank Gapen. The message states Gapen worked hard and fairly for all parts of the Basin and expresses hope for his return.

Government fish car to visit next Monday

Thirty cans of fish left for distribution in local trout streams, distributed with help from Frank Gapen. The shipment, alongside the state shipment, should improve fishing in nearby streams soon.

J. Nicely and his family now reside south of town, moving from Kane. He has signed with Booth and Robertson to work for another year as expert irrigator, familiar with methods for the firm’s crops and to safeguard their interests.

The Ladies' Aid and Presbyterian Aid society will meet at Mrs. M. O. Barnes home on Friday November 10. All members are requested to be present.

Lively Fight on Southbound Train Near Worland

A lively melee broke out on a southbound train near Worland last Saturday afternoon. Passengers included factions from the Marquis and Sidebottom trial. Joe Marqui was drenched by George Merrill of the cattle company, with others from the Marquia bench rushing to aid. A sympathizer with the Umbar outfit cautioned restraint and urged them to let the fight run its course. Damage reported included facial injuries among Padlock members and possible abrasions.

Train confrontation verdict in cel can case noted

Parmeles was on the train as passengers hurried to exit the car when trouble began on the platform of the coach described as more comfortable than the cushioned interior. The jury reached a verdict in the Willmott case and it is unclear if any complaint will follow regarding the fight on the train or the pot.

Neighbors Host Halloween Party at Royal Neighbors Lodge

The Royal Neighbors entertained Modern Woodmen members with a ghostly Halloween party at the lodge rooms. Ladies dressed as ghosts and men picked partners without knowing identities as games provided amusement. Refreshments followed and attendees praised the event as worthwhile.

Hunting Trip With Mattison Party Near Shell Basin

George and Fay Mattison of Ponca Nebraska spent two weeks visiting the Gould family and hunting in the Big Horn mountains. Accompanied by Elmer and Alva Gould, the party secured several deer in Shell Basin, two of which were shipped to Nebraska. The Mattisons left Tuesday and plan to return next year.

Two Hunters Return From Palaska with Deer Heads

J. G. Smith and E. A. Davis came back Sunday night from Palaska after a hunting trip. They secured two fine deer heads, one with 18 points. They report elk have not descended from the high mountains and remain very scarce.

Hunters Return From Rockies With Fine Game

Josh Ellis R. H. Ahrens Dr. Smith and Dr. G A Harris returned yesterday from a hunting trip in the Rockies. They report a fine time while gone and say game is plentiful in the South Fork country. The party secured five elk and one deer.

Damage Case in District Court Overf low Damages

In district court on Wednesday the case Quincy Hooker v J M Grant H B Tibbetts and Hans Hansen was called for trial with a jury. Testimony was given by the plaintiff before dismissal of the case Thursday morning. Plaintiff sought $2000 damages for overflow from defendants ditch Waters.

Postmaster Aide Stricken With Typhoid Fever

R W McIntosh assistant postmaster was taken ill Tuesday with typhoid fever. Dr Carter was called and hopes to check the fever before it becomes critical. Bob's friends wish him a speedy recovery. In his absence from the post office Ed Dunaway assists Postmaster Gibson.

Not Guilty Verdict In Wyoming Cattle Case

The jury in the state of Wyoming versus R. M. Marquis and Edward Sidebottom returned a not guilty verdict after being deliberated all night. Closing arguments ended Friday afternoon and jurors reached the decision shortly before six o clock. The defendants were discharged.

The Royal Quartette presented the first Lyceum course number last Tuesday evening at Praternity ball. A crowded house greeted the Royal Male Quartette and the performance drew general approval. Though the company was not deemed equal to the singers, it delivered several strong numbers.

The earlier attachment and levy upon real estate are vacated and the lien discharged. Shipped Horses From Grand Island Buyers Secure 70 Head

Shipped Horses, Bradstreet and Clements of Grand Island Nebraska sent 70 head of horses to the city. The animals were secured from Allen Brothers Lockhart and Taylor with Dear Bradstreet accompanying the shipment. The firm is known across the west as a large dealer in fine horses and is likely to return to this market.

Mountain View Hotel Proprietor Injured in Accident

Col JR Goodrich, owner of the Mountain View Hotel, broke his right thigh when he fell while walking to the hotel Saturday morning. Dr Carter set the fracture and the patient rests as easy as possible, though his advanced age and infirmities mean a long recovery ahead.
