Constable Fisher Fined For Whiskey Trade In Greybull

A Greybull constable Albert Fisher paid a $1136 fine to a U S internal revenue officer after evidence showed he disposed of whiskey to a local resort keeper. He faces possible removal by the county commissioners who will decide at their next meeting.

Notice to Water Users in Busin Seeks Compliance on Payments

Town officials report widespread violations of water and electric ordinances. Starting June 2 there will be fines for each offense and officers will inspect plumbing and connections. Delinquents may face 10 percent penalties and disconnection if bills are unpaid by the 26th. City faces rising deficits and urges taxpayers to aid in recovering funds.

Basin Woman's Club Elects Officers for Ensuing Year

The Basin Woman's Club elected its officers after a Wednesday meeting. President is Mrs. Guy Brill with 1st vice president Mrs. R R Denny and 2nd vice president Mrs R R West. Recording secretary is Mrs R P Pearson, corresponding secretary Mrs Thos M Hyde, assistant corresponding secretary Mrs W C Snow, and treasurer Mrs J C Stewart. Retiring president Mrs Jas F Ewers declined another year.

Youths charged with statutory rape in Cowley Byron area

Sheriff Wickwire investigated after 16 year old Violet Vail of Byron accused two youths of statutory rape. Arnold Christenson and Frank Madsen faced charges, Bert Dillinger charged as accessory. Men aged 18 to 20 bound over to district court in $1000 bonds. Dillinger jailed without bail awaiting next court sitting.

Basin Opens Baseball Season with 13 7 Victory

The Basin regulars defeated the old timers 13 to 7 at the new northwest ball park. Umpire Edgar L. Beard handled the game with Kendall Spurrier Snow facing old timers Hime Smith and Ramsey. Henthorn and Leithead doubled and tripled, while Ramsey made two-base hits. Basin plans a schedule with Thermopolis and Cody and two Sunday games monthly.

Big Horn Basin Better Schools Meet In Basin

A four county meeting of the ISCHOOL ASSOCIATION in Basin included Washakie Hot Springs Park Big Horn county superintendents and State Education Commissioner A Slade. The group planned a joint institute in Lowell late August aimed at standardizing and uniforming school work across the four counties with Mrs Blaine Kinder driving the initiative.

Deep drilling eyed for vast Big Horn Basin oil field

City Derrick BK C Page scout for Empire Gas & Fuel and C Clymer of National Supply returned from the Big Horn Basin oil fields. Taylor says the basin has been scratched and deep drilling on dozens of unexplored anticlines could boost future production manyfold. A deep test is planned this summer in Little Buffalo Basin near the McFarland well by Producers Corporation with interests from Texas Midwest and Ohio companies.

Carl Wilson and Jack Friend have rented the building next to The Republican office and will display a complete line of electric appliances fixtures and complete electric light and power plants on the first of the month. Memorial Sunday Observances at Basin Camp Hall

Basin Camp No 5586 M W A and Royal Neighbors announce memorial services next Sunday at 3 PM at the hall. Afterward members proceed to the cemetery to decorate the graves of departed members.

Grammar School Program at Rex Theatre

Grammar school pupils presented an entertainment at the Rex theatre last Friday night with dances songs and dramatizations by grades one through six. A slide show on dental health by Prof. F R Colthorpe followed the program and the event netted a nice sum from 463 tickets sold for the schools.

Greybull Hill Fixed Completes Accessible Graded Road

Contractor J. H. Welsh completed grading of Greybull Hill this side of the Greybull river. The road now features a twenty four foot surface and an easy grade, greatly easing daily use for locals traveling the route.

Lovell Land Co was organized with the county clerk on Wednesday. The capital stock is $25,000 and the firm will engage in a general real estate business.

J. H. W. Welsh and J. W. Gould secured the contract for canal construction at Mecklen gulch south of Basin and have a large force of men and teams at work there now making the improvements.

Memorial Day Services Planned by G A R Post

Under General O O Howard Post G A R and civic groups a Memorial Day program is set for 10 30 at the Rex theatre with a Basin Band readings orders addresses Lincoln Gettysburg and Flanders Field readings and a Gettysburg tribute. After services a procession to the cemetery will lay flowers on Civil War soldiers graves.

Northwestern Wyoming Drainage Board Meets in Chamber

Directors from the region convened in the Chamber of Commerce rooms to discuss drainage district projects. R A Hart of Salt Lake City advised with the government reclamation service on points of procedure.
