Market Letter Highlights Mixed Cattle and Hog Prices in Kansas City

Fat cattle trading was disappointing with steer prices down 10, cows and helfers 10 to 20 lower, stockers and feeders barely steady, and good to choice steers up to 8.90. Hogs rose with top at 8.47 and bulk 8.30 to 8.45, while sheep and lambs edged higher with wether and spring lambs around 9.00 and Texas stock stronger by 10 to 15 points. Arizona ewes 5.15 and spring lambs to 9.00.

Unlimited patents to lands withdrawn for coal use

Thousands of western settlers who filed on lands under coal withdrawals will receive unlimited patents to their lands. The Taylor bill authorized the interior secretary to issue patents to all entry men on filings later declared to be coal withdrawals. The exact number affected is unknown until reviews finish. up to 100,000 patents may be issued in six years.

Dr C A Duniway president of the state university at Laramie gave a lecture on International Peace before a crowded Basin audience. He argued arbitration could settle most historical disputes and noted twentieth century gains in settling disputes by arbitration. A high school song recital under Prof B C Hoover pleased the crowd and reflected well on the students and instructor.

Marriage of J.3 Atherly and Mrs Lau Paich in Ther Mopolis

Last Monday evening in Ther mopolis the marriage of J.3 Atherly of this place to Mrs. Lau Paich of Henry South Dakota occurred. Rev Irwin of the Presbyterian church performed the ceremony in private. The bride, a most estimable lady, will be a good helper for the groom a leading stockman. The couple arrived yesterday and will reside at the Atherly ranch near town. The groom made many friends here who wish him happiness and welcome the bride.

Cook Christensen wed at courthouse with Justice Bonwell officiating

Last Friday afternoon at the courthouse H V Cook and Miss Margaret Christensen were united in marriage with Justice Bonwell presiding. The ceremony occurred in the bride’s mother’s presence along with County Clerk Lou Blakesley and Mrs Zela Murphy. Both newlyweds are popular Cowley neighbors with many friends who extend best wishes. Mr and Mrs R B West returned earlier this week from Billings.
