Fun on the Podunk Limited Play Raises Church Funds

Presbyterian church members presented a comedy aboard a railway train, featuring a large local cast led by Harry Hime as Mr. Boggs and Constance Skovgard as Mrs. Boggs. The show aimed to fund a new church building, with numerous village stereotyping and humor throughout the performance.

Commercial Club Approves Local Post Office Building

The Basin Chamber of Commerce voted to accept the post office building offered by the postmaster general and the interior secretary. Plans are completed, and construction is expected to begin this summer. A committee will telegram Wyoming delegates to confirm the decision as representative of Basin’s business community. A Burlington railroad visit to Greybull followed the meeting.

Exclusion of Cavalry in National Army Plans

The secretary of war directs that no cavalry units be raised in the national army by selective draft for the current war. Governors are to be notified that national guard cavalry will not be called for training. If needed later, regular regiments could be used and guard cavalry would replace them on the border.

The newly elected Basin city council held a Saturday night meeting at Homer T. Lamb’s office to assign departments. E J Sullivan stressed clear duties with Homer T. Lamb in charge of water and lights and Watkins? No. Lamb oversees pumping station and electric plant. Gibson handles streets and irrigation. Frank Hime runs sidewalks police and health. W H Pauley manages trees sewers and fires. Specific officers to be appointed later.

Memorial program observed at Basin on May 30

Memorial day events at Basin include morning exercises at Basin cemetery with General O O Howard Post No 110 G A R and participation by civil military and patriotic groups and school children. The afternoon decoration program at the Rex Theatre begins at 2 with prayers, selections, flag salute, readings, and monument decoration.

Fire destroys Wardrobe dry cleaning shop in rear hall

A fire Monday afternoon at 3 o clock gutted the Ward robe dry cleaning and pressing shop located in the rear of the old Fraternity hall. The cause is unknown as owner Martindale could not explain it. Several suits and dresses were lost, with partial insurance coverage.

A squadron of American torpedo boat destroyers has crossed the Atlantic and joins the war zone patrols at Queenstown. After a cordial reception the crew prepared for immediate duties as British officers noted the ships were well equipped though clothing was light for the changing sea conditions.

Lyceum Course by Episcopal Guild Successful

The Lyceum course organized by the Episcopal guild ended last Wednesday evening with a fine Savranoffs performance. Mrs Guy Craig led the effort and the guild reports a net surplus of over thirty dollars after expenses, reflecting strong community support.

Basin business prospects eyed by Langbecker couple

Chrs. Langbecker and his wife visited Basin last week assessing local business prospects. He returned to Denver Sunday pleased with conditions and believes he may relocate to Basin in the fall if suitable arrangements are made.
