Sullivan Elected Basin Mayor In Quiet City Election

Sullivan was elected new mayor as Basin voters chose a new city government. Homer T. Lamb won a council seat and will help guide Basin’s oil industry legacy. Incumbents Wm. Gibson and Frank Hime retained seats, with outgoing mayor pledging future support. A community program followed with readings, music, and talks by local figures.

Women Enjoy Fine Program at Basin Library

Basin women gathered Wednesday afternoon at the library for a review of American authors. The Woman's club literature and library department organized the program on Local Color in Eastern Fiction with Mrs. T. K. Bishop chairing and Mrs. Zela Murphy assisting.

Basin Man Beryl Smith Enlists in Cavalry

Basin resident Beryl Smith, son of S. H. Smith, has joined the cavalry. He leaves Basin for Cody to receive duty orders after working on Torrey and other county ranches for several years.

Rapid construction in Basin shows a strong housing push. Harry Hime plans an eight room elegant home as the county courthouse gains workers. Ralph Brown and Paul Lampson of Fairfield Iowa arrived in Basin Monday to work on a ranch. They arranged with Dan Rogers for employment and will be employed until early September when they will return home or finish their high school work.

Greybull Road Being Built Now

The Basin and Greybull towns plan a new road between them funded by 800 from the towns and a county share, with W F Unterzuber of Greybull low bidder on the balance. Unterzuber donated funds and labor for the road and bridge, secured donations totaling over two thousand dollars, and tested new road machines with his son. A two mill special levy May 20 would raise around eighteen thousand dollars for this project and county roads this summer.

Chamber Meeting Discusses Road Funds and Farm Help

The Greybull chamber met at the Live Wire club with directors present. They reported about 400 of the 500 dollars needed for the Greybull road pledged and expected more. a water rate proposal for city tracts was considered. the creamery may aid in cold storage and marketing. efforts to place farm workers and promote perishables were noted.

Basin club plans stronger band reading program

Members reported progress organizing the band and recommended hiring a man from another line of work to read with the band weekly. Meetings grow more active each week as Basin citizens are urged to engage. The club aims to tighten ties between farmers and town residents and foster fraternal feeling.

Return engagement by Chase-Lister troupe set for Sunday

The Chase-Lister Theatrical troupe, fresh from a successful four day engagement, will return Sunday evening. They will perform in conjunction with the picture show The Vagabond Prince during the Sunday night program.

School Meeting Held Monday in Basin District

The annual Basin district meeting to hear the school board report and elect two new members was held at the schoolhouse Monday afternoon. Pres. W. H. Pauley led the session with reports from treasurer and secretary showing improvements, a new heating plant funded by about 36000, and 324 pupils out of 350 eligible. A $12000 levy for the coming year was requested, a sinking fund for 18000 bonded debt discussed, and Prof Fuchs praised. New board members are Mrs A W Coons and T K Bishop.

No Ditches in Alleys Urged for Clean Town Trials

In alleys with trash piles tin cans manure or other rubbish no irrigating ditches will be built after futile attempts to pass through the alleys. Residents are told to clean their alleys before requesting ditches and to ensure water access this year.

Move to New York for family reasons

H Lascelles and family, farmers on the Greybull river near Oslo, left Wednesday for Jamates Long Island to make their home while the sister of Mrs Lascelles recovers from a serious illness. Their farm has been rented to Jacob Hawerman.

War tax bill aims for per capita levy of thirty three dollars

Washington reports a new war tax bill extending excises to every American home. It forecasts $1.8 billion in new revenue atop $1.5 billion existing, yielding direct taxes of $33 per person. It broadens income, profit, internal revenue, and customs taxes and covers heating, lighting, tickets, insurance, transportation, autos, soft drinks, postage, and club dues. Protests pour in as hearings in the senate finance committee are expected.
