Explosion Kills Two Greybull Men in Basin Blast

The Swanson Torpedo Co factory and magazine about ten miles northwest of Basin exploded around 8 am Tuesday, killing two workers identified as C. E. Girard and W. W. Walters. Girard’s body was found mutilated. Walters’s remains could not be identified. Both men had planned to quit handling nitroglycerine.

Correction on Club Leader Salary Announcement

A correction notes last week's Republican reported the salary as 100 dollars per month. The actual salary is 50 dollars per month because the work spans six months though only 300 dollars was raised for three months.

Miss Allie Jewell, head of the Wyoming Children's Home Society at Wheatland, urged the Wyoming state legislature to address delinquent girls who are sent to Colorado facilities. She suggested expanding the Worland Industrial Institute with a new heated bungalow run by a matron under general oversight to keep girls locally and properly supervised.

Virginia Daniel eight month old daughter of Mr and Mrs T C Daniel of Greybull died at their home last Sunday at 11 am after a bout with whooping cough and a sudden setback. Funeral was held in Basin at the home of Mr and Mrs J C Stewart and burial followed at Basin cemetery.

Canadian Soldier Speaks Here Soon

Capt Blake of the British Canadian recruiting mission, wounded four times in France, will give a talk in Basin on Sunday afternoon under Red Cross auspices. A joint Mothers Day meeting, décor by the Woman's club, and special music are planned for 3:30 PM. Blake will also speak in Cody on Saturday and Thermopolis Monday.

Basin Residents Enjoy A Regional Fishing Day

Last Sunday many Basin residents fished near Hyattville and Tensleep. At Paint Rock a picnic at Booth ranch united families including Hime Stewarts Burchess Bridenbaugh Knight and others. Others fished near Medicine Lodge and Daugherty place with tales of decent luck.

At the annual meeting citizens elected O. R. Irwin to fill one school board seat and S. H. Smith to another. W. H. Pauley retired and S. H. Smith was re elected. The budget was approved and a levy increase was proposed to 8.5 mills with a sinking fund of one mill to retire bonds.

Slacker suspects moved from Basin to Cheyenne

Herminio Marquez and Nick Nykaza, held locally as slackers, were taken to Cheyenne yesterday by Sheriff Wickwire and handed to federal authorities. U S Deputy Marshal Pete Warramount accompanied the transfer after arriving in Basin.

Fremont County Plans Big Fair

Last Saturday county agent M. B. Boissevain and assistant Philip Miles from Fremont county visited the Big Horn county fair board. Fremont plans to adopt Big Horn’s fair model, secured 1800 from county commissioners, and will proceed with incorporation. They travel home to Lander after trips near Basin.
