The Basin Chamber of Commerce board met last Monday with F. A. Wise presiding. A Red Star group was discussed, a garden committee formed, good roads day planned for April 16, and war fundraising efforts reviewed. Impromptu speeches followed with community leaders and local youth involved, concluding with a social and refreshments.
On Friday March 22 the M and church hosted a joint reception for the Presbyterian Christian Endeavor Society and the Baptist Baptist Young People's I A group, with the Epworth League presenting. Over sixty members from all three groups attended as harmony filled the event and a program followed the introductions.
Mr and Mrs W H Kirby are the proud parents of a fine baby girl born yesterday morning.
Rev. Ralph M. Jones was away in Cody so the Basin service split. D. Kimbro preached in the morning while the Epworth League gospel team spoke in the evening to about eighty attendees. Del bert Davis spoke on Why We are at War, Boyd V. Osborn urged Liberty Loan participation, Don Crall asked Does Democracy Pay, and Fred Harcleroad closed on Paying the Price.
In a tongue in cheek apology the editor admits an error occurred when late war news was inserted into Col May's feature about A H Tedman due to absent editor and a restless office boy. The piece says the mistake unintentionally helped the article and the editor pledges no hard feelings toward Col May.
Justice Bonwell officiated last Sunday at Greybull where Joseph H L Staniford and Miss Kime Lowe were married. The groom is a prominent Ivory merchant in Greybull and the community offers best wishes to the happy couple.
A dispatch reports eight hundred thousand French British and a hundred thousand American troops in action. Allies gain nearly a mile on a 50 mile front recapturing towns while German losses exceed 500000. Russians retake Odessa as German drive weakens west of Albert and along the Somme. The front remains strong with Haig and French forces holding firm and reserves ready.
Lovell Wyoming March 27 1918 fieldmen informed a telegram from Denver dated March 26 1918 reports Herbert Hoover urges higher beet prices to boost next year’s sugar output. The Great Western Sugar Co announces a flat 10.00 per ton for the 1918 beet crop and asks wide publication to growers.
Big Horn county bankers gathered in Greybull last Monday evening with bar association members to organize the upcoming Liberty Loan drive. R B West presided, C J Williams served as temporary chairman, and G R Brill was secretary. An executive committee includes a representative from each county bank. A working committee led by L V Stryker Lovell C M Loring Greybull and J C Stewart Basin will prepare for the drive as a banquet follows at Council Cafe with toastmaster M Loring.
The report notes Big Horn County will again contribute its share to financing the government during the war period, reinforcing local commitment to national efforts.
Mr and Mrs Boyd V Osborn depart for a three to four week trip visiting Des Moines Indianola Iowa and Ft Riley Kans where his father an executive officer stationed at the base hospital will take a two week furlough around April 1 They will also attend meetings with county city committee chairs at Cheyenne Ft Russell and Camp Dodge with J R Bonwell assisting at The Republican office during their absence
Mr and Mrs M R Douglas will host over Easter Misses Mary and Margaret Douglas of Harlowtown Mont daughters of William Douglas formerly of Basin.
B C Rumsey, a Wyoming candidate, born from Yale and St Mark’s, built a dairy and creamery business in Basin Big Horn Basin. He exhibited prize cows at the state fair, with Pell Pontiac Queen praised by the university. He aims to serve Wyoming with capability and judgment if nominated and elected.
County Attorney Hartigan with Deputy Sheriff Pisher raided Greybull's red light district last Thursday night. About a dozen women appeared before Justice George Harding and were fined 25 to 50 dollars each and sentenced to 40 days in jail, suspended if they left the country immediately.
The sale of KR. L Henderson in Basin Gardens last Monday drew a good attendance and strong prices. Col. Dan Rogers supervised the auction and cried the bids.

Mrs. Larrick informs that Big Horn county sent twenty one hundred pounds of garments to the Belgian Relief committee in New York City. If every county does the same it could materially aid the stricken people.
