President Harding called for an extra session of Congress to meet April 11 to receive communications from the executive. The tariff and taxation are expected to dominate his message, with talk of reconstructing the government machine and creating a general commission to dispose of wartime property.
Hyattville residents plan a big roads day with sidewalk construction from River Side Inn to Seaman place and a new road toward Basin. A free dinner for workers precedes a town dance with proceeds aiding the good roads movement. Basin visitors are expected.
State Engineer F C Emerson and Cheyenne engineers led a delegation that toured the Greybull valley site. Directors and advisors reviewed progress and announced plans to classify lands into three classes with equitable assessments, signaling the project’s near completion.
J Cruce, longtime manager of the Cash Meat market, has purchased the establishment from owner J B Henderson of Billings. Cruce is well acquainted with the business and will continue operations at the same location.
A new owner has assumed control of the business and plans several improvements. He has built a solid trade since taking charge and expects to continue the store’s success with better products and service.
The Rock club staged a surprise party for Mrs. M. B. Rhodes last Saturday evening. Guests included Mesdames F. A. Wise, Wm. Gibson, G. E. Brigham, J. A. Berry, D. A. Null, C. P. Brown, L. A. Zane, L. Blakesley and D. L. Darr. The gathering featured food, games, and light amusements.
Last Saturday marked the birth anniversary of Miss Ada Stanley. Fourteen guests attended at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs W J Stanley. Afternoon refreshments were served and the young people reported a fine time with Miss Ada as a charming hostess.
The Basin high school girls presented A Dress Rehearsal on March 22 directed by Miss Owens and Miss Baumhoefner with Mrs. Silver at the piano. Cast included Thelma Gould as Cinderella and Pearl Ellis as the Fairy Godmother. proceeds totaled 110 dollars for a new school plane.
Oil production capacity expands with new refineries and rigs in Wyoming. Union Oil contracts to develop Crook county holdings as pipe prices drift lower. Survey plans grow with Utah Nevada oil discoveries, prompting possible congress actions and new crew deployments.
Last Saturday marked the sixth birth anniversary of Elaine Glasgow and Dickie Hudson. At the home of Mr and Mrs E H Glasgow a party for the youngsters featured games from 3 to 6 and refreshments, with many attendees including Emily Mae Nadler Margaret Clymer Lois Atherl Martha McNown and others.
The Great Western Sugar Co officers will meet farmers and business leaders at Basin Chamber of Commerce on March 10 at 7:30 PM. Factory representatives will explain the two new beet grower contracts and seek a clear understanding among growers, the public, and the company.
Last Sunday night burglars entered the Zane store and the Murphy Murphy Co op hall and took about a hundred dollars of merchandise and a few dollars in change. A revolver cartridges and other items were taken from the Murphy store. The sheriff's office traced the burglars to the northwest part of town and expects arrests soon.
Under sheriff Kid Dawson investigated the disappearance of a man named Darling or Lovell after he visited the ML ranch and inquired about a river ford near Kane. His hat was found in the river and authorities fear he may have drowned.
A drowning incident mentioned at white crossing highlights Darling and his large family. Darling has a wife and 11 children living in Lovell supporting the note.
Dave Gilliland, resident near Gillisford on the Nowood, was badly mashed by a falling piano while helping Earl Rettinghouse load it into a wagon. Dr. Chester Harris said no bones or internal injuries were found and no serious harm expected.
C A Zaring received a telegram from Mrs Zaring stating her mother expired in Decature NL. Mrs Zaring was called to her mother's bedside two weeks ago and was present at the end. Frank Ewen of Beaver Creek visited town yesterday. Mrs W H Horn is reported very ill today.
The Basin Men's club held a dinner at O'Neil cafe for 65 guests followed by a library program and dancing. Performers included Mrs. Mortimer, Winifred Patten, and Hime with solos by Mrs. S M McKone and Mrs. Kl H Smith. Music by Hansen and Kellar capped an enjoyable social event to close the year.
The Eastern Star Kensington held its organization meeting last Friday at Mrs. A. B. Martin's home. Officers elected were L. A. Zane president F. A. Wise vice president A. B. Martin secretary treasurer. The next meeting is set for April 16 at Mrs. L. A. Zane's home. All Eastern Star ladies are invited.
The final high school lyceum event in Basin will be held in the Bymnasium on April 0 with the Colonial Players as the attraction. A musical program featuring vocal numbers and a one act Colonial play is planned. Admission is 10e and the event aims to close the seven concert series on a high note.
Washington reports the United States pressed Germany to surrender Grover Cleveland Bergdoll and release two American detectives Frank Zimmer and Carl Neuf jailed in Mosbach for attempting to arrest Bergdoll. Neuf received fifteen months and Zimmer six months. Four German accomplices also faced varying terms.
Mr and Mrs Wm Small take their child to Minneapolis for treatment after a dog bite. The dog’s head was examined and found to contain nib bles. Dr H T Harris received the serum on Monday. The family planned to go east to a specialty institute.
A man named Brendt was brought to Basin hospital this week with a compound fracture of the leg after falling from a car about ten days ago. The injury was not properly treated and he is in serious condition.
