Worland welcomes the Big Horn Basin Wool Growers association for a two day meeting on the 7th and 8th with a 9:15 banquet. President Pearson opens sessions as members discuss dues and promising plans for pure bred sheep breeding in 1918 and beyond.
The toastmaster Lawyer Harkins delivered splendid responses at the Invitation with prompt participation. Beart George appeared with a broken down Ford while our Da vid Lewis lost a team but found a wagon. Dean Faville of the Wyoming State University stood out as emergency man. Editor Newton of Cody drew cheers with roads in the Big Horn Basin paved with mayonaise. Australia was represented by a leading wool specialist. Tensleep’s Bob Taylor charmed the crowd with soul stirring songs.
On Saturday night at Hugh Goulds home a stag party celebrated his birthday with games and stories. Refreshments were served at midnight. Present were Harold Whitmore Clifford Whitmore Dor Kissinger Gien Kissinger Don Crall James Morrison and Ray Colley.
Fred House installs a fine large barber pole before his shop on Fourth street replacing the former pole demolished several months ago by an unruly Ford.
Mrs Sam Black from Rairden is visiting this week at the home of Mr and Mrs William Gibson.
American forces northwest of Toul conducted a raid MAC over German defenses. Artillery prep lasted 45 minutes as pioneers blew dugouts and two hundred gas projectors were located and destroyed. No prisoners were taken as Germans retreated. 75 projectors used in the last gas attack.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Sullivan and daughter Dorothy returned home on Tuesday after visiting California. Mrs. Sullivan and Dorothy stayed a couple of months, while Mr. Sullivan went out there about three weeks ago for a short vacation.
The Basin Chamber of Commerce plans a Good Roads day inviting all residents to close businesses and join in road work. Committees will cover Basin Manderson Burlington Greybull Hyattville and Shell with G. J. Schenk representing county commissioners. Basin Boy Scouts will register participants for an appointed day. Further details to follow.
The past week saw the deaths of two well known residents. Andrew Johnson, a rancher from Nowood country, died at home Thursday and was buried Saturday. He left a wife, three sons, and one daughter. Guy Maller, 18, son of Mr and Mrs Geo S Maller, died at home Sunday after about nine days illness. He was born April 18 1900 and would have turned 18 next month. Survived by his parents two brothers and one sister. Funeral held Tuesday at the parental home in Burlington.
The Great Western Sugar Co is praised for its wartime patriotism by a Great Western Liberal column. It notes substantial donations to the YMCA the Red Cross and Knights of Columbus and large purchases of liberty bonds as evidence of corporate support for the war effort.
The Home Service section of the American Red Cross has opened its office on the court house third floor for consultation on all department matters. Office hours are Tuesdays 2 to 4. Report all matters to the secretary Mrs Jas F Ewers. Chairman Mrs R B Landfair. Committee members include Mrs W C Snow F A Wise T M Hyde and Dr M H Smith.
Word reached this morning that an unofficial report of the German peace treaty has circulated at the Russian congress. Japan plans to occupy Siberia as soon as peace ratification is confirmed and the army will advance in that direction.
Mrs Harold Burt returned from Spokane Washington where they had honeymoon. They were married here February 22 and spent two weeks visiting relatives there. They left on Wednesday for Ther wopolis where they will make their home.
Word comes from Alton Wickwire who enlisted two weeks ago in the 20th Engineers at Billings. He is stationed at Spokane Washington and will soon move to Camp American University in Washington DC. Wick reports happiness and notes he passed an excellent examination despite being over the draft age.
We thank friends and neighbors for kind help during the illness and death of our son and brother Guy Maller. Mr. and Mrs. Geo S Maller Elva Maller Fred A Maller George Rex Maller.
A 1917 act regulates explosives licenses for all makers sellers and users including druggists to prevent misuse. Loyalty is a criterion for issuance and Big Horn county licensees are listed with Basin Wye as contact. The paper requests names of licensees to print and asks readers to report questionable loyalty confidentially.
A parcel intended for making Red Cross night shirts went missing after being lent between Basin and Basin Gardens yesterday afternoon. The finder should return it to the Red Cross rooms in Basin or to Mrs. W. J. Stanley.
Patterson Ki Basin hospital patient plans to return home today. Glen Leidecker of Leidecker Too Co Casper visited town this week.
In Basin Wyoming a Methodist Sunday school shower was held at the home of Mrs. J A Berry for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harcleroad. A large crowd attended and received numerous presents while games included a mock wedding of John Barleycorn and Miss Delerious Katsupholder.
A special meeting of the Mothers and Friends club is set for Saturday afternoon to elect a financial chairman and discuss other business. Men are invited, a program will follow, and a Rex show may feature photos of enlisted men. Light refreshments will be served.
Mrs. Stanley asks all who have finished knitted articles to bring them to the Red Cross rooms at the court house. A box will be shipped on Tuesday, so items should be delivered by Monday evening.
The school board asks the board of health to close Basin schools until next Wednesday for fumigation. Dr Harris urges Basin residents to cooperate with the quarantine. No Sunday school for under 18. Any student ill will be sent home and must present a doctor certificate to return. Diseases listed are scarlet fever measles and whooping cough.
On Saturday night last week a slumber party was held at Miss Ruth Rhodes home. Attending were Marjorie Coons Gladys Scott Wilma Skovgard Dorothy Zaring Elva Burroughs and Esther Pauley. They report a very enjoyable night.
Senator Randall addressed Big Horn Basin concerns on potato markets and starch extraction. He cited Professor Pugsley on equipment sources and the potential Basin factory speed, plus profits from a potato chip venture and street cleanup efforts led by the chamber.
