Death of Josiah Cook Pioneer and Merchant of Basin

The community mourns Josiah Cook a leading Basin merchant born March 13 1858 in Plainfield Ohio died after a paralysis attack. He settled near Lovell then moved to Basin served three terms on the town council and built substantial property. Funeral held Sunday at 2 pm from the B church Rev J W Alboney officiated with quartet, interment Mount View cemetery.

Tuesday afternoon Rev Rarick of Cody spoke on life stages and their influence. Students enjoyed the talk and hope for a return visit. Prof Brewer notes progress on Uncle Joah rehearsals. Earl Gebhart returns to school after assisting at the post office in Gibson's absence. Sophomore English class begins Ivanhoe study and weekly compositions drop to two. Music class masters Sth notes and will study 16th notes. Faculty issued report cards. Walter Bastien acts for Otto and Badin buyers. local placer tops reported northeast of Basin F 4 and Shell residents file in nearby area. One hundred Wyoming preachers request pamphlet copies.

Pamphlet on Opening Prayers of Sixty Second Congress

Limited to 100 copies the pamphlet of confining the prayers at the opening of the Daly sessions of the Sixty Second Congress is available by writing to Representative Mondell first come, first served while supply lasts. Death of R A Waln at Hyattville described as due to a complication of diseases. He was an early Basin County settler, lived on Spring Creek, survived by widow and several children. Funeral held yesterday with interment at Spring Creek. Mrs Lahae Ill, mother of Mrs F C Hormel of Horse Creek, is ill with old age ailments. Dr C E Harris called. nursing arranged by Miss Martha Daley due to patient’s frail condition.

Jolly Dancing Club St Patrick’s Dance at Fraternity Hall

The ladies of the Jolly Dancing Club will host a St Patrick’s Day dance at Fraternity Hall on the evening of March 17 with a five piece orchestra providing music. club members look forward to a lively celebration in the morning hours.

JOLLY CONVICTED IN BASTARDY CASE AT LOVELL

State v Loman Jolly heard by Judge Metz with a jury. The verdict finds Jolly under 21 and the complainant Pearl Howe over 21. He must pay $2 weekly for 15 years for the child’s support or face three months in jail. Witnesses attended from Lovell. Also notes Captain Jack Hilliard, 78, planned governor support and a future celebration with a free dance.

Visitors from Meeteetse attend wool growers convention

A. J. McDonald and several couples from Meeteetse visited town last Friday on the way home from Thermopolis where they attended the wool growers convention in three autos. The Bur Migton sale near Eaton last Tuesday drew over five hundred attendees with Col. Gropney reporting about 7000 dollars of property sold in roughly four hours.

Rumsey proposes farmer owned creamery in Big Horn Basin

A large turnout hears BC Rumsey argue the Yellowstone creamery harms local farmers by paying too little for cream while others pay more for production. He urges a cooperative, farmer owned plant with shared stock to keep the creamery running. The meeting nominates new officers for the Progress association and notes future talks in Cody.

Woman's Club program showcases education topics

At the Wo mans club meeting last Wednesday the education department prepared an afternoon program. A committee led by Mrs. G Tallon presented papers on Vocational or Industrial Education and School Legislation with readings by Mrs. G W Black Mrs. Ruth Donaldson and others. Refreshments followed.

New Yorkers Arrive Seek Basin Home

Mr and Mrs Earl C Hanford of New York City arrived on Wednesday and expect to settle in Basin. He is an electrician and she a stenographer. They had corresponded with W S Collins and were drawn by the western fever after arriving and touring the country.

masquerade ball planned in Hyattville awaits masked guests

A grand masquerade ball will be held in Hyattville on the 17th. No one may enter before midnight unless in costume. After unmasking all may dance. Lunch will be served in the hall. Tickets cost one dollar. County clerk notes February busiest month for general years, details: February instruments total 426 and cash receipts 534.95.

To Form County Union Delegates Meet This Afternoon

Delegates from various locals of the Farmers' unions across the county will gather this afternoon to perfect a county organization. About 26 delegates are expected for the meeting to be held in the Library.

Alma Peterson postmaster at Love ell P A Larsen and Mrs Louise Larsen of Otto were arraigned by U S Commissioner Hartigan on charges of making false reports on stamp cancellations. Each posted 500 bond to appear at the May term in Cheyenne. Government argues pay tied to cancelled stamps prompted excess remuneration. arrests followed after discrepancies appeared. All are locally known and expect to explain charges in Cheyenne.

Eclipse Of Moon Captures Nightly Spectacle

An almost total lunar eclipse occurred Wednesday evening with the shadow starting after seven and by 8 30 covering about nine tenths of the moon. The sky was clear and many residents watched the rare sight.

Miss Lucille Coons Recovers After Surgery

Miss Lucille Coons underwent an appendectomy at Basin hospital last Sunday performed by Drs Harris. The operation was a complete success and she is making a very nice recovery, a hopeful update for her many friends.

Baptist Church announces weekly services and events
