Welcome Home for Soldiers Opens Monthly Welcome entertainments

The first monthly welcome home event for returning soldiers drew a large crowd at Fraternity hall with over fifty soldiers as guests. Basin band and Dr Vanslyke orchestra provided dancing while a luncheon was served. Wm C Snow welcomed the boys and outlined plans for ongoing events. Lew Boles spoke for the soldiers and thanked Basin for the warm reception. Funds were secured to cover all expenses and leave a balance for the next committee. The next event will be Thursday evening April 3 at the hall with organizers to be announced.

National Forest Roads Boosted by Post Office Bill

Denver March 5 The new post office appropriation act signed March 3 raises federal aid for roads by 200 million and provides 9 million for roads and trails within national forests. Forest Service officials say the funds will enable a larger field season with over 1 million planned for Colorado South Dakota and Wyoming and support maintenance surveys and construction.

The law sets a preference in national forest labor for honorably discharged soldiers sailors and marines for required work.

Bank expansion underway in Tensleep with two new institutions

Tensleep will see a second bank as the Ten Sleep State Bank files articles of incorporation and Stock Growers State Bank plans to follow. Cheyenne investors are backing the new bank, with ties to Clay and Robinson interests.

Burlington Hosts Twin High School Basketball Wins

Burlington hosted two games last Friday with the home squad prevailing. Burlington first team and Lovell won 14 to 7, while Burlington second team defeated Cody 16 to 4. Basin visitors at Cody include Henry Armeling and others attending the wool growers convention.

Wyoming men home after ammunition train arrival at Cheyenne

The 116th ammunition train with 297 men under Major Beach will arrive in Cheyenne today and be demobilized at Fort Russell. A large reception is planned in Cheyenne. Telegrams list Big Horn Basin towns among the contingent including Thermopolis 7, Moeeteetre 10, Greybull 6, Cody 23 and Barington.

Wyoming to vote on 2.8 million highway bonds April 22

A special election is set for April 22 to decide if Wyoming will issue 2.8 million dollars in highway bonds. Governor's office announced the date and officials prepared proclamations to the 21 county boards and clerks. If approved, about 6.4 million will be available for road work over three years.

Government 10 Retain Railways Amid Financing Delays

Washington reports the government will keep control of railroads despite Congress not funding the railroad administration. Railroads may borrow privately or use War Finance Corporation funds to operate and pursue improvements while avoiding rate hikes. New Veterinarian Here Dr M B Walker Arrives in town

Dr M B Walker of Montana has opened an office with Metropolitan Pharmacy and offers veterinary services. He comes highly recommended for integrity and ability and invites locals to seek his care. His wife was injured in a February auto accident and remains hospitalized. she will join him here when able to travel.

Family from Kansas plans new home on Peters ranch

Lloyd Gino and his wife from Reserve Kansas arrived Saturday and will settle on the C. C. Peters ranch south of town. They are currently located there for the present.

Thrift Stamp Campaign Earns Fourth Grade Top Prize

A twelve week school campaign ended with Frank A. Wise awarding a stamp to the grade with the largest sales. The fourth grade won as scholars bought $450 in stamps. A new twelve week campaign begins with FE. J. Sullivan offering a $5 prize to the top grade.

Federal Appraiser Foxton Visits to Appraise Lands

F N Foxton a federal land appraiser from the Omaha branch of the federal loan bank spent the week reviewing lands in Big Horn Hot Springs and Washakie counties. He will conduct appraisals for association loan applicants in those counties.

The Basin band have secured the old court house for use in band practice and moved to the new quarters the first of the week.

Row at governors meeting over unemployment action

Western delegates clashed with the conference of governors and mayors as Secretary Houston left after Mayor Rolph of San Francisco urged Congress reconvening. Rolph condemned shipping contracts and urged relief measures while proposals for a national council of mayors were discussed.

School Superintendents Convene for Uniform County Work

Mrs Wales superintendent of Hot Springs County and Miss Underwood of Park County visited Basin with county superintendent Mrs Elaine Kinder to outline a uniform plan for school work. Washakie County’s Mrs Wild was absent. Missouri call prevented attendance. Four counties aim for cooperative, consistent school effort this year. Mrs Wales elected president and Mrs Kinder secretary of the new state association of county superintendents.

New Banking Law Allows Banks to Join Federal Reserve

The governor has signed a new banking law allowing banks and trust companies incorporated in the state to become members of the Federal Reserve Bank. Banks in this region are expected to pursue membership, with actions likely forthcoming. Watch the ad columns.
