Bid results set for Bench Canal drainage contract

Kansas City firm W F Bullock won the drainage bid for the Bench Canal Drainage District covering 15 000 acres on Germania beach. Four bids for the drains and tile/materiel totaled 49000 to 68000 with Bullock also lowest on tile costs. Work to start immediately, finish in seventeen months as courts resolved the district’s history and the plan now calls for deeper drains and tile.

Fair to County Directors Take Over Farmers' Fair Affairs

The plan is to deed the fair grounds to the county once debts are paid to stimulate wider public interest. County directors will elect managers for this year and preparations for September begin. A good roads gathering is set for the 26th at Gillette with delegations invited. The session aims to determine the highway route across the mountains and to adopt the Black and Yellow Pratt plan through Buffalo Tonaleep Wor land to Basin, with further details to follow.

Floater Caught Ends Death of Hot Springs Resident

The body of Arthur Virden, an elderly Hot Springs county resident, was recovered from the Bear Horn River at Greybull Monday afternoon after he jumped from a bridge near Lucerne on June 12. A coroner’s inquest found suicide, with burial expenses charged to Hot Springs county. Virden, 73 or 74, had been in poor health and tired of life. His body was interred in Greybull Cemetery.

Spauldings Visit From Los Angeles Arrive for Visit

Mrs. S. J. Spaulding and daughter Louise, former Basin residents now in Los Angeles, arrived Saturday to visit friends. Louise recently graduated from a music conservatory in Indianola, Iowa, while Mrs. Spaulding attended the graduation east. They plan a stay before returning home. Last Saturday Chas Garland of Basin garage fractured his wrist cranking a Ford. Dr. M. H. Smith reduced the fracture and Charlie will be idled for weeks.

Scout movement meeting for boys at Rev Newport residence
