Wyoming Press Association Met at Cody for 1916 Session

The Wyoming Press Association held its annual meeting in Cody on July 21 and 22 1916 with sessions in the Carnegie Library. Officers elected included J B Hanway Casper Uribune president L L Newton Cody Herald vice president and Leslie Davidson Hudson Miner secretary Cheyenne was chosen for the 1917 gathering. Resolutions urged fair treatment of advertisers northern Wyoming canal development Cody High Line and state printing within Wyoming while supporting good roads bonding and local printing. Speakers covered editorial influence country weekly state development and the press association. attendees left for Yellowstone highway meeting and a park tour.

Unknown man found dead near river and railroad tracks

Ernest Borden located a dead man near the brickyard between the river and railroad lines. An inquest found the man, about 35, six feet tall with sandy hair, unknown identity, died of natural causes. A whiskey bottle, shaving brush, tie, leather chain, and cotton glove were found.

Hotel Project Ready to Start on South Fourth Street

Fred Williams of Basin Construction Co received a Denver telegram ordering immediate ground breaking for a sixty room hotel on South Fourth Street. Williams cannot begin for around two weeks due to current housing projects in the northwest part of town and plans to confer with company heads in Denver. The announcement signals prompt hotel construction.

Outing at Doyle Ranch Delights Wyoming Trout Seekers

On a fishing trip at Doyle Ranch on Medicine Lodge last Sunday, O A Leavitt A B Martin and J 8 Martin of Lincoln Neb L L Haney of Denver and J R Bonwell joined in quest of trout. It was the first Wyoming outing for J S Martin and L L Haney who praised the trip and pledged to return next year.

Ownership dispute sparks grass creek oil lease clash

In Grass Creek the Littlejohn lease ownership dispute caused tense scenes as Lamb-Willians Drilling Co complained over rights from Alex Linton and Meeteetse stake holders. A temporary compromise paused hostilities while Dome and McGrath interests negotiate. Nearby activity includes a new OM Well Supply building project and Grey Bull refinery shipments of gas line and coal oil headed to Idaho. Chas B. Stubbs and wife and Miss Carle Stubbs of Billings were in town yesterday. They had just completed an automobile trip through the park and were en route to Tenaloop for a few days outing before returning home.

Ford car wrecked after wind storm near Greybull bridge

A Ford driven by AooJ. Schenk toppled from a hilltop into the Big Horn river during a wind storm near Greybull. The car plunged from a cliff and was wrecked beyond repair, ending the surveying trip.

Beet Growers Meet Officials Demonstrate Beet Care

Great Western Sugar officials conducted a beet growing demonstration during a tour from Lowell through Basin and Manderson to Worland, culminating in a large meeting. R C May led talks on proper beet cultivation and field visits showcased irrigation and ditch cleaning plans set for September 1, with a cordial note on cooperation between growers and the sugar company. The delegation included Lovell factory staff, local editors, and growers from Basin, Worland, Powell, and Manderson.

Two Arrested for Injuring Lovell Man in Car Collision

Fred Fries and Jack Green of Lovell were jailed after deputies alleged they rammed a man during a car ride with no lights. County Attorney Collins will file an information. Reports say the drivers were intoxicated. Also noted are weekend travelers from Thermopolis to Lovell and a forthcoming marriage of E. E. Lonabaugh to Agnes Hanna set for August 10, 1916 in Shentan.

Important Arrest in Bomb Case In San Francisco

San Francisco July 35. Police announce the first important arrest in the Mioters case linked to the Lomb explosion at the parade. W. K. Billings, an automobile machinist, was taken into custody as Chief White and detectives staged a dramatic arrest at Stanford Hospital. Police say further arrests are likely but offer few details. A duplicate Combshell was found, tying to two men who submitted a sample months earlier. The eighth victim, Mrs. Kinsley Van Loo of Fresno, died today as government officials passed through Basin en route to a park road meeting.

Brogan was captured and jailed by jailor John Zane. authorities suspect he is Alina Kiersey of Lander, likely mentally unbalanced.
