Water shortage solved by new lake supply plan

Water Superintendent Lou Blakesley says Paint Rock and Tensleep lakes will supply enough water for all users. Natural outlets to creeks enable a fresh channel to be blasted in two to four days, creating a reservoir system unseen before. Water from the lakes will flow into the creeks, supporting crop needs as work proceeds this week.

Old Timers Tomorrow at Paint Rock Picnic

The Big Horn Basin Pioneer association holds its annual picnic in Booth grove on Paint Rock tomorrow with Basin band music. A traditional dinner will be served and baskets of lunch are welcome. A dance at Hyattville in the evening will conclude the event for Basin old timers.

The Who Do class of the M E church surprised Mr. and Mrs. Everett Macey at their Montgomery ranch home with a linen shower. Big water strike at Basin Gardens drilling site

Genoa Oil Co drilled on Wm. Lewis place in Basin Gardens and hit a large flow of artesian water in the Greybull sand at 1476 feet. The pure mountain water may see commercial use and samples were secured by Midwest Refinery. Water likely piped to Greybull refinery or Basin for domestic use. 8 inch casing was in place. Rig to be moved soon.

Low Rates for Feed Tariffs Set by Railroad Agency

The railroad administration authorizes publication of tariffs offering half rates on feed from Burlington and Quincy stations west of the Mississippi to Wyoming west of Orin Junction with a minimum 20 cents per hundred pounds. Cotton seed cake from the southwest to Wyoming stations priced at 560 cents per hundred. Cattle and sheep moved west of Orin Junction to feed points on the C B Q are charged the regular fat cattle or sheep rate with one third of the going rate for return movement. Original freight bill must be surrendered and an affidavit provided that some animals returned as shipped. Tariffs with dates effective will be published soon.

A Pretty wedding at Paint Rock for Burgess Booth couple

Lucy Hasseltine Burgess wed James William Booth at the Burgess home on Paint Rock. Rev. R M Jones officiated with close relatives present. The couple, well known in Hyattville, plan a honeymoon in the Big Horn mountains where Booth works as range rider for the Cattle Growers association.

Prohibition Enforcement Bill Passes House Amid Debate

In Washington the house approved a strict enforcement bill by a large margin, with Democrats and Republicans totaling 100 against it and a strong showing from prohibitionists. A liberal alternative was defeated 255 to 136, signaling broad support for the stricter measure.

Basin defeated Greybull 4 to 3 in Greybull yesterday. Shorty Kunsch hit a two bagger with two on in the second inning driving in two runs. Basin pitcher Cory fanned 17 while Greybull hurlers struck out 13. Umpire N J Ries.

Fraudulent Check Artist Sentenced After Plea

R. D. Arnoldus charged with passing a fraudulent check at Metropolitan Pharmacy for $10 faced a Saturday hearing before Justice Bonwell and pled guilty. Bound over to district court in $500 bond, unable to post, he was jailed. In district court he again pled guilty and was sentenced to reform school at Colter.

Mining Men Hold Meeting to Expand Prospecting

Stockholders of Battle Park Gold Mining Co. met Wednesday evening to hear C. J. Stone’s recent property report. They ordered imumedinge steps to thoroughly prospect the various claims and will dispatch a crew at the start of the week to dig prospect holes to the deposit bottom, aiming to test the formation deeper before machinery is installed.

State Day A Success At Methodist Church

The third annual State Day at the Methodist church drew a crowded audience. Iowa and Nebraska tied with fourteen states each, Kansas had eleven. Twenty two states and two foreign countries were represented. Prof. F L McNown spoke on My Native State from a Distance and Delbert Davis on Wyoming. Special music featured the choir and Carl B Armeling sang Wyoming with the choir and congregation.

Mills Begins Mercer Dome Drilling Near Basin

Scott Mills moved his rig and supplies to the Mercer dome six miles north of the Mercer ranch and twenty miles east of Basin Utah. The contract with Mendenhall Bros Banking Co. of Springville calls for 1200 feet with a 300 foot optional depth if oil shows commercially. Surface indications are favorable for sands at that depth. Mills is a leading local contractor and will finish the hole. Basin locals hope for a new oil field tributary to the area. He bought a large tractor to haul gear due to uncertain teamster availability.

Thermopolis deputy files elk killing charge against nonresident

Deputy State Game Warden G. E. Price filed a complaint before Justice J. R. Bonwell accusing Herbert Bues of unlawfully killing three elk in the Big Horn mountains east of Hyattville. Bues, a non-resident now reported living in Minot, may be sought via governor's papers if he does not return. Offense allegedly occurred on April 20.

Taft urges interpretation plan to salvage league pact

Former President Taft proposes a set of six interpretation reservations to gain middle ground among Republicans and win ratification of the league covenant. Peace bond sought after threats in Greybull case

William Smith and G. H. Bushey filed in Justice Bonwell's court asking bonds to keep the peace against Joe Wheeler. They claim Wheeler issued threats to kill them. A hearing is expected tomorrow.
