Water shortage solved by new lake supply plan
Water Superintendent Lou Blakesley says Paint Rock and Tensleep lakes will supply enough water for all users. Natural outlets to creeks enable a fresh channel to be blasted in two to four days, creating a reservoir system unseen before. Water from the lakes will flow into the creeks, supporting crop needs as work proceeds this week.

Mills Begins Mercer Dome Drilling Near Basin
Scott Mills moved his rig and supplies to the Mercer dome six miles north of the Mercer ranch and twenty miles east of Basin Utah. The contract with Mendenhall Bros Banking Co. of Springville calls for 1200 feet with a 300 foot optional depth if oil shows commercially. Surface indications are favorable for sands at that depth. Mills is a leading local contractor and will finish the hole. Basin locals hope for a new oil field tributary to the area. He bought a large tractor to haul gear due to uncertain teamster availability.
