Tensleep Bonanza irrigation project to begin soon

W. 5. Kimball and his brother Sim announce that engineering work on the Tensleep Bonanza irrigation project will start within weeks, financed by Detroit capitalists. The system will draw water from Ten Sleep, irrigating land between Hyattville and Tensleep east of Basin, creating thousands of acres of cultivable land and hundreds of new residents. Large labor demand expected, benefiting Basin County overall.

Will Test Law By Democrats and Republicans

Attorneys for both parties will appear before Judge Parmelee on the 29th to seek interpretation of conflicting sections of the primary law. Local lawyers say members of either party may vote for opposite party candidates in primaries. A test case in district court will settle the issue before the coming primary election.

Dr. John M. Gile of Dartmouth seeks the Republican nomination for New Hampshire governor. Representatives Weeks McCall and Gardner are tipped for the U S Senate seat held by Crane of Massachusetts. Gov W R Stubba of Kansas enters the race for U S senator backing direct vote primaries and judges. Milwaukee Judge John C Karel campaigns for Wisconsin governor noting his football fame at Wisconsin. Judge B B Dillon, Ohio Republican nominee for governor, is 43 and from Ironton. California primary nominees for state offices to meet in Sacramento four weeks after the primaries to select presidential electors and draft a state platform.

Light Fine for Waste Water Incident Near Worland

Carl Keller Jos Deveroux and Clyde Titus were arrested for allowing waste water to run on roads near Worland. Deveroux and Titus pled guilty and received promioa fines while Keller will stand trial. Case set for July 24. W F Brown returned from Rairden after working on political fences. G H Smith departed yesterday for Cody and Powell to support the Big Horm Mill.

Terrible beating as scrubs defeat regulars 20 to 2

In a Sunday ball game at the park the Harmon Cubs were routed by the Scrubs 20 to 2. Drumm and Harmon led the Cubs while N Loveland and Dornberger starred for the Scrubs. Death of S A Lampman noted in Cody with funeral held at the Methodist church.

Charges in Thermopolis Assault Case Guilty Plea

Charles Matson, brought from Thermopolis, faced Judge Maret for assault and battery. He pleaded guilty, received a 20 day jail sentence, and was ordered to pay costs, totaling fifty days in Sheriff Wickwire's summer resort.

John R. Hewitt and Mrs. Frankie Parker of Thermopolis obtained a marriage license from the county clerk last Saturday. E. J. Sullivan and C. A. Zaring departed for Cody on Wednesday to attend upcoming court matters this week.

Burlington officials tour Denver inspect western line progress

Denver July 17 A number of Burlington officials visited Denver for a tour of western lines especially the Thermopolis to Powder River connection. Superintendent Byram said grading on the Wyoming section was completed last year and track is laid at about a mile per day on the seventy mile stretch south of Thermopolis. He projected operations beginning around Oct 1 with a through steel line from Galveston to Seattle before snow. Crops along the line are better this year and traffic should rise with harvest. open to a great tonnage from the new line though undeveloped land must yield to cultivation to reach full investment benefits.

Basin Players Star At Worland Tennis Meet

W C Snow and son Julian represented the local tennis club at Worland last Saturday and Sunday. Snow defeated Hamilton 6-3 6-1 in singles, with several matches ensuing through rounds. In doubles, Hamilton and Woodrow won the final against Snow and Snow 6-0 4-6 6-3.

Senate ousts Lorimer over corrupt election findings

In Washington on July 13 the Senate voted 55 to 28 to unseat Illinois Senator William Lorimer and declare his 1909 election invalid. After six days of debate Lorimer defended his seat on the floor. The Lea resolution, adopted by the Senate, found corrupt methods in Lorimer's election.

Sale of Indian lands in Wyoming public auction

The Indian office plans a public sale of Wind River lands in Wyoming from August 15. About 200 tracts of 40 to 19 acres will be offered to the highest bidder and leased for ten years. Leases can be fenced. details to be announced soon. Railroads may cut rates for travel to the Wind River agency near Lander.

Crow lands in Montana and Utah sale sites named

The Crow lands in Montana and Uin tah reservation in Utah will host grazing land sales. Wyoming towns Shoshon Riverton and Thermopolis lobbied to hold sales, but the general land office insists sales occur only at the town with nearest land office. Warren amends bill to permit autos in Yellowstone Park

Washington July 17 Senator Warren secures road widening and surfacing funds totaling 77,000 to open park roads from belt line to western border Thumb station to south border and Lake hotel to east border. Additional amendments raise park road funds to 159,000 and expand entries for forest reserve roads plus provisions for national monument custodians and pending homestead act clarifications aiding western settlers.

Death of Mrs Winne in Basin hospital

Mrs Ella F. Winne widow of Archibald Winne died last Thursday night at Basin hospital from a complicated kidney disease after an extended illness. She is survived by a daughter Mrs T B Hunter. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm from the Hunter residence south of town. Interment followed at Mount View cemetery with local G A R post members in attendance. The community expresses sincere regret and extends sympathy to her daughter and family.

Will Go To Camp For Field Instruction

Lieut J B Frisby to command Company D and lead the unit to a field instruction camp at Pole Mountain from July 28 to August 6. The company trains July 26 at Islay before detachment and march to Pole Mountain where regiments from other states will join.
