Welcome Home for Soldiers Omitted Details

Soldiers returned to their hometowns are welcomed in a ceremony described by local reporters. The event featured a crowd of civilians and military members showing gratitude and support for the service members and their families.

Welcome Home Dinner for 148th Soldiers in Basin

Returned soldiers and relatives gathered at Fraternity hall for a Basin welcome home dinner with a Red Cross committee support and Mothers and Friends funds. About ninety attended as Wm. C. Snow toasted the 148th and shared wartime anecdotes while the service flag hung as a centerpiece.

Basin Welcomes Home Returning Soldiers

Last Sunday Basin welcomed home members of Co. C later part of the 148th Field Artillery. Henry Lewis Charley Lewis Verne Patterson Carl Johnson Neal Tuttle and Rupert Anderton returned, with Ed Null arriving from another branch. A procession to the chautauqua tent honored them as Mayor Wise voiced pride and gratitude.

Doll Clark Heads Drilling Effort On Greybull Ranch

Doll Clark travels to the Anderson ranch high above Meeteetae to drill for all with T Stewart Kinney as driller. The rig and tools are being assembled and active work should start soon. The site lies farther up the Greybull than any prior wild cat test.

Picnic on Fourth Held by Sunday School Group

Members of the Methods at Sunday school held a picnic on the courthouse lawn on the Fourth. Treatments of ice cream lemonade and cake were served during the day and games of all kinds made the affair pleasant for all.

The Basin chautauqua closes this evening after a week of performances featuring the Harmonic Singers Louise May Mash Red Cross nurse Bob Seeds Oyepela Co Adrian M Newens Ampican Artists former Senator Elmer J Burbett the Boy Scouts Lin coln Wirt Madrigal Four Dr Elmer Lynn Williams and the Seven States Orchestra. Boys return from France arrive home in small town

Lieut. John P. Arnott Jr. arrived home from France looking fine. His father left to meet him, missing Lester Gregory who also arrived that day with his parents. Um McCarty of Manderson visited Basin friends as many soldiers from the state have returned from service.

Gas Well for Markham Sparks Local Excitement

Co. D Markham drilling in Murphy home east of Kirby Creek brought in a big gas well last Friday. Rigs rushed to the field and former abandoned locations are being held. Gas found about 1500 feet, 200 feet above the sand where oil is expected, signaling a potentially good field in the area.

County Equalization Meeting Sets Hearings on Values

County commissioners and the assessor met as a board of equalization to adjust property values across the county, mostly raising assessments. They will reconvene on the 28th to hear complaints and finalize the values.

Oil executive from Moorcroft visits Basin for supplies

G. A. Branson, president of the Wyo Idaho Oil and Gas Co., Moorcroft, visited Basin this week to purchase supplies from the Continental. The company operates three producing wells near Moorcroft and owns 1600 deeded acres in the structure.

Prohibition raid in Greybull nets whiskey seizure

State and county officials raided a Greybull shack occupied by John Anderson and seized fifty cases of whiskey. Anderson was arrested and released on a $1000 bond. Preliminary hearing set for July 25 before Justice George Harding. Sheriff Wickwire and County Attorney Little praised for cooperation while state enforcement continues with possibly more arrests forthcoming.

Mining Expert Arrives to Inspect Buttle Park Gold Mines

Col. Stone a mining engineer arrives from Butte Montana to examine the Buttle Park Gold Mining Co. property east of Hyattville. He will be met by Wm. Rannells of Hyattville and taken to the mines. Directors seek expert advice on holdings and mining methods before large scale development.

Palmer Johnson to wed Rose Ellicott in Denver

Palmer Johnson recently returned from France will marry Rose Ellicott of Denver next Sunday evening in Denver. Rose is the daughter of Mr and Mrs C H Ellicott, formerly of Basin, and the couple have many friends in this vicinity who wish them happiness.

Trucks Deliver Tools For Basin Road Campaign

Three trucks loaded with road machinery arrived in Basin on Wednesday evening for use in the road building campaign in this part of the state. They were excess government surplus delivered to the state for engineering projects here. KK Liver is in charge of the operation.

Road work routes announced for Basin area patrols

Mr. Silver announces three repair patrols to cover road segments between Otto and Burlington, Cody and the Park County line, and Cody and the Park. Patrolmen will be deployed for immediate repair work on Basin to Manderson and Basin to Greybull routes, with T. P. Bollman and Tim O'Neill assigned respectively.

Man Charged With Forgery Bound Over To Court

Richard Cotton was brought from Greybull to the county jail after being charged with forging his sister's name on checks. He had a preliminary hearing before Justice Harding and was bound over to the next district court term. Unable to post bond, he remained jailed awaiting the court sitting.

Basin Welcomes Tourists as Roads Improve

Basin sees a traveler surge as visitors from eastern states pass through en route to the park. Tourists praise Basin camp grounds and the Chamber of Commerce for facilities. Patrolmen work on roads ahead of permanent improvements, with Cheyenne visitors noting better travel conditions and Basin’s looks. Geo W. Johnson returns from Grass Creek.

Man Will Fly At The Fair Aviator To Be One Of The

A newspaper note announces an aviator will perform a flight at the fair. The event highlights the pilot as a featured attraction and promises an aerial display for attendees.

Fair board secures aviator exhibitions for upcoming fair

Col. W H May announces a contract with aviator James Carr to perform two days of aerial feats at the fair. Gov Carey plans to attend on the second day to address veterans. The Great Western Sugar Co will offer about 200 in cash prizes for display beet entries. 300 boys and girls have signed up for activities funded by 1800. A floral display and a new bungalow style office building enhance the grounds for years to come.

Death of Lester Hale in Shell near Greybull

Lester Hale died of tuberculosis at his sister Mrs. W. R. McCracken's home on Shell last Friday afternoon. A 43 year old Dubois resident recently moved to the area, he leaves a sister and a brother Dad Hale of Thermopolis. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon conducted by a Greybull Baptist minister, with interment in Shell cemetery. Hale was a Spanish American War veteran and well known to old time residents.

Dr Larrick Returns to Visit Family and Consider New Location

Dr. W. E. Larrick, formerly a practicing dentist, who served in France, arrived with his wife for a short visit from Oberlin Kansas. They will tour the park this week and may settle in Lovell or Basin.

Trollers Outing Near Paint Rock Ranch

Mr and Mrs Jesse Troller and family vacationed at Booth ranch on Pain Rock. Mrs Troller and the children returned. Jesse plans a walk to Paint Rock lakes. Ernest Agee and Mrs J W Hoel with daughter Bery lead a park outing next week.
