Take Two Games Go To Thermopolis In Clean Doubleheader

The Thermopolis team arrived on the train Saturday as Thermopolis defeated Basin 11 to 1 in the second game. Woodmeasse Hants pitched for Thermopolis with a strong battery and solid fielding while Goore contributed offensively as Thermopolis dominated after the fifth inning. The two teams will travel to Cody at week’s end to face Cody Powell and Garland before returning for more games.

Council Meets in Regular Session Amid Bidding and Water Talks

The council met in regular session last Monday with Mayor Booth and all councilmen present. Bills against the town were allowed while others from Dr. M Deal and Marabal & Atherly were laid over. Concrete crosswall bids were opened. Breuer & Stanton won the contract. Street crossings ordered and funding for sprinkler work approved. Zane appointed to supervise sprinkler compliance. Water rental at the hospital discussed with no action.

Noted Man Here in Basin Visitor Praises Local Education

Dr F X Schaffer of the University of Vienna visited Basin and spoke highly of the country. He praised the local education and prosperity, noting even shepherds can read and write and people in Basin enjoy city-like conveniences. He called the country wonderful.

Lack Of Interest In Local Militia Company

There is marked lack of interest in forming a militia company here as no one volunteers to take an active role. If no action is taken before week’s end the effort may be dropped. R B West learned from the adjutant general that a unit formed at once could join the Wheatland summer camp.

D. H. Whitmore and Mr. McIntosh of Chisholm Michigan are in town this week. They are touring the country with a plan to locate a new business site. Whitmore is described as a cousin of jeweler F. H. Whitmore.

In the absence of Progress Association officers, E. Hoover chaired. Minutes were approved. A county exhibit for the Burlington exhibit car this fall and a State Fair exhibit were discussed with plans to form a committee led by W. A. Siser and to notify ranchers for cooperation. A motion delayed building the exhibit. H. H. Shepherd presided to consider suspending meetings for two months, then re electing current officers. The group adjourned with no further business until next week.

Residents of Thermopolis petitioned to sell Shoshone Indian lands there and the GLO Commissioner will consider the request when sale site is named. The sale timing and terms remain unclear as Wyoming delegates push to refer the nearly 1,000,000 acres for sale this year.
