District Court Docket Cleared In February Term

The district court, presided by Hon. P. W. Metz, granted two default divorces and heard drainage district assessments. Antelope Drainage ruled at $174 for The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. and railroad and North Beach reductions followed. Afternoon divorces were granted in two cases, clearing the February docket.

Wyoming National Guard Cavalry Unit Inspected at Thermopolis

On a recent Saturday Adji Gen T J McCoy inspected all commanding officers and members of the Wyoming national guard cavalry at Thermopolis as a step toward federal recognition. Basin delegates Ted Denny and Lew Boles returned with full instructions on unit organization. The cavalry will receive full equipment including an armory horses stables rifles uniforms and will muster into service with fourth regular army pay and weekly evening drill once equipment arrives.

Basin musicians reformed their band with R J Extra as president Frank Bristow secretary treasurer and Ed Duniway librarian. E C Hoover will lead weekly practices and street concerts funded by the Chamber of Commerce aiming to build one of the west’s best bands. McNown Family Arrives to Lead Basin Schools

Superintendent F L McNown and his family arrive from Bloomfield Nebraska to oversee Basin schools for the coming year. They rented the R W Spratt house and plan a summer stay to learn local conditions and prepare to improve school efficiency. The Basin community extends a hearty welcome.

Rex Theatre Closes for Fourth and Chautauqua

The Rex theatre will close tomorrow for Fourth of July and again during the Basin chautauqua. Manager Hokanson aims to make the chautauqua a major Basin event, so the theatre will shut during those days.

Wireless news brings Basin treaty peace signal

Basin learned of a peace treaty signing within ninety minutes thanks to Dr. L G Van Slyke and his wireless outfit. Bells rang and whistles blew with no demonstrations as Basin compared to cities with AP service. Highest Workmen's Compensation Award In District

Judge P W Metg awarded the largest sum in the district under the Workmen's Compensation Act to Mrs A B Doty of Cowley. Doty was paralyzed from refinery injuries and received $1,000 plus the five children totaling $2,400 at $60 yearly until age sixteen.

Shorty Kuntz Returns Home From War

P W Kuntz, who enlisted in 1917 and served with the 148th Field Artillery HQ, returned to Basin last Sunday after being mustered out at Fort Russell. He recalls wartime tales including Rupert Anderson who slept in a truck bed that was shattered by a nearby shell.

Father Has Stroke Casts Shadow On Family

Attorney R. B. West departed Tuesday for Wyoming Nebraska to be with his father D. C. West who recently suffered a paralysis stroke. The elder West had visited the area several times in recent years and his illness is mourned by friends.

Whiskey 19 Confiscated in Greybull Raid

Early Tuesday the Greybull sheriff’s office seized a truckload of whiskey from a local garage. Lloyd Hindman Wilford Pittman and Al Blake were arrested and given a preliminary hearing. Hindman bound over to district court Pittman a material witness and Blake discharged. The sheriff warned more arrests are likely as investigations continue into bootlegging activities.

Battery F of the 148th Field Artillery is housed in Cheyenne this week and will likely reach Basin today or tomorrow. Mrs Snow asks notices be posted a few hours before arrival to announce the exact time and requests all residents to gather at the depot to welcome the troops.

Coliseum at Greybull Opens With Jazz Dance

The Coliseum at Greybull opened to the public Wednesday night built by H W Horn and Jim Henthorne at a cost of 25000 dollars. Hundreds attended the opening as the New Orleans jazz orchestra provided music for the dance. The 48 by 84 foot dance floor and cafe are noted features with plans for an expensive fountain soon.

Yanks Leave Rhineland

Paris reports American occupation forces begin removing units in the Rhineland signaling the end of the occupation. About 5,000 men will remain with one regiment and auxiliary troops, as Fourth and Fifth divisions depart for Brest with others follow in order.
