In the early hours, a man hides a large plate on the hall table and lets the dog into the house. He greets his wife with birthday wishes and a surprise. She descends to find the plate empty after the dog supposedly ate the treat.
A string of humorous vignettes unfolds from a domestic quarrel over a dog whose munzle broke, to a man recalling love and tea shopping, a somnambulist aubade caught by a night watchman, and a holiday dance misrecognition. The pieces carry light irony and social quirks in a single fragment collection.
