County Poor Farm discussed as potential state experiment station

At the Progress Association meeting in Antlers Carl Armeling proposed turning the county poor farm over to the state for an agricultural experiment station. Some members supported the plan citing benefits, while others warned of costs and existing pauper needs. The group approved discussing with university heads to pursue a state-initiated, year term arrangement if feasible.

Farmers Institute to be held in Baim on February 16 17

A farmers institute will be held in Baim on February 16 and 17 with an interesting program. A D Paville A B How man and Mrs B K Loy of the University of Wyoming will attend and participate. Local speakers will also be secured. The event promises to be a regular feature if farmers show interest. W H May and sons received a Poland China sow from a Nebraska breeder last Saturday. The Mays are building a fine herd and will supply breeding stock next summer.

Stock Train Delivers Largest Montana Stock Shipment

A Burlington special stock train of forty eight cars left Billings on New Year’s Eve bound for Omaha carrying about 15 000 head of cattle and sheep mainly sheep. The private coach carried prominent Montana stockmen including Herman H Peters Joe Kusinskim Clint Q Hough J A Dowdle James Carson Frank Bever and T J Jones. A minstrel show aboard the train lasted until noon New Year’s Day, with meals every hour, making the run about eight hours faster than typical passenger time. The stock will reach Lincoln then Omaha for the Monday market.

Bonham family seeks missing son social activist case

Mrs Bonham reports A B Bonham of Sheridan seeking his son W A Bonham who vanished after leaving last summer. The father says the son was an active socialist, may have planned a Chicago move via Minneapolis, failed to visit socialist HQs, and last trace was a June 29 1913 letter found on the Mississippi bank. He suspects foul play and paid investigators to locate him.

Basin Choral Society Organized at High School

On Tuesday night the Basin Choral Society was organized at the high school with Rev. R. W. Albone as president, W. C. Snow secretary, and John Coons treasurer. The board of managers includes these officers and two others. Initiation fee is one dollar, dues are ten cents monthly, meetings Tuesday and Friday evenings. Textbooks and octavo music supplied by the society. Director B. Hoover’s remuneration will come from a portion of proceeds of public entertainments. Any person may join by signing the constitution and paying the initiation fee. Expected attendance is light on Friday night at 7:30 before work begins.

Sheppard Leaves for England After Visit

W. FP. Sheppard sailed Tuesday for his England home after months with Mrs. 8. W. Albone. He praised the climate and prospects of the city and plans to bring back ideas to attract new residents. During his stay he made many friends who wish him a pleasant voyage and hope he returns in the future.

Death of John W. Rogers and D W Rogers wed on Wednesday

Death notices report John W. Rogers died at Modesto California on December 26 at age 78 after a period of poor health. His son Dan W Rogers arrived and the widow accompanies him to Basin to visit for a time. Interment is in the hometown and many friends extend condolences.

Picture Show And Dance At Acme Amusement

The Acme Amusement company presented a Wednesday evening picture show followed by a dance with special music. Manager Smith earned praise for maintaining high musical standards and attracting a large attendance. Washington, Dee, 31. Senator Warren was advised by the geological survey director to issue a topographic atlas map of the Meeteetse Wyoming quadrant, available by application to Warren or Wyoming delegates. Sentence handed to Tom Melntyne in Worland court

Judge Metz convened a special term at Worland last Friday. Tom Melntyne, a Black man, was brought from Thermopolis and sentenced after pleading guilty to fatally harming Louis Cloud. Judge Alets ordered the Washakie county attorney to close the house of ill repute where Cloud died.

University Notes on Wyoming English Reform and Clubs

University notes describe English curriculum revision at Wyoming with new instructors from top universities. Freshman English remains required for agriculture, engineering, and liberal arts with emphasis on writing and oral skills. A December tag day raised about 200 dollars, mainly by women students. The Extension Department issued a circular detailing boys and girls agricultural clubs and potential Wyoming implementation.

Market notes show cattle classes gaining 10 to 45 cents last week with a healthy tone through the period. About 13,000 head at Kangas Cay were sold at steady to strong prices, demand active. quality and finish drew more attention and long fed cattle advanced toward just returns for feeders. Prices cited include heavy steers up to 8.85, heifers 8.75 to 9.00, Colorado cattle around 38.00, pulp steers 7.40 to 8.00, pulp cows 6.00 to 6.50, and meat fed cattle 6.40 to 8.00. Hogs up 5 to 10, receipts 10,000. sheep and lambs mixed with strong wethers and ewes recent arrivals. Hillary Jordan of Manderson visited town Wednesday.

Pioneer Riley Kane Dies Near Shell Wyoming

Riley Kane a Wyoming pioneer believed near or over 100 died Wednesday night at Robert A. Rath’s home near Shell after a pneumonia illness. Adopted in Indiana, Kane wandered west as a youth, later ranching in Shell and engaging in mining. He had ties to early Basin settlers and was a member of Temple Lodge No. 20 A F and A M. Funeral today in Shell under Masonic auspices.

Eastern Star installs Lewisa Chapter officers in Greybull

C E 8 Install, Lewisa Chapter Order of Eastern Star held their installation of officers at the lodge rooms on Wednesday evening. A delegation of eight from Greybull aided in the installation ceremonies and enjoyed the evening. The installing officer was Mrs. Cas U of Greybull and Mrs. Mazie Rhodes of Lander acted as Martha. The officers installed included Worthy Matron Bertha Vandevender Worthy Patron C W Atherly and others. Refreshments followed the ceremony and guests enjoyed the gathering.

Woman's Club Meets at Library on Foods and Preparation

The Woman's club will meet next Wednesday afternoon January 1éth at the Library. A program by the domestic science department on Foods and their Preparation is planned with committee members Mrs. W.
