President signs homestead law expands grazing land access

The new homestead provision allows entry of 640 acres for grazing with eligibility by qualified entrants. Areas will be designated by the interior department, primarily in the Rocky Mountain and western states. Prospective entrants must reside three years, improve land, and sell at least 1.25 per acre with half funds placed on the entry land. Previous homesteads do not gain added rights. The Ferme bill seeks restoration of certain Indian land rights and passed the House, now before the Senate.

Government Owns Bite For New Building On Court House Square

Basin residents have pushed for a government post office move to a new facility on the southeast corner of the court house square. Postmaster A W Coon reports stamp sales exceed requirements and the office will advance to second class on July 1. The act of March 4 1913 requires ten thousand dollars annual postal receipts for a new post office, and the town has met the criterion.
