Washington's Birthday observances fill Basin schools with patriotic exercises. Hon. H. Ridgely and W. C. Snow address students as grammar and intermediate grades perform. The write up recalls Washington's life, civil work, and the framing of the U S Constitution, urging reverence for the Fathers.
A heated Big Horn County High School game unfolds tonight in Fraternity hall between the first and second team. Threats of action fly as the first dismisses the second team plans for the night. Wise’s sells tickets at 25 cents general admission and 5 cents for public school pupils.
Rep. B. C. Hart reports from Cheyenne on the recent session. He calls the $40,000 immigration bill vital, to fund a four man board and governor for statewide colonization efforts. He also cites the fifth district judicial bill, the headless ballot change, and the initiative referendum as notable.
Deputies named by Assessor Honnold prepared tax rolls and were briefed on duties with blanks issued. L J Abbey and R Hoover, a Ba sa real estate man, named water commissioner for the third district by Jo Carey. Hoover received congratulatory notes as the town of Tasin prepares for assessment work.
A feature notes the Dago Kid, famed wrestler, seeking a partner to throw him at Fraternity hall on Saturday evening during a moving picture show exhibition. A tall town youth plans to take on the challenge, with others nearby urged to attend and test themselves. Manderson Dedicates New Church next Tuesday with afternoon and evening exercises.
In line with the Big Horn Basin Pioneer Association the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will hold its monthly meeting Monday at 3 PM in the library auditorium. It will be a Frances E Willard Memorial program prepared by Mrs E Harvey. A free will offering will support the memorial fund.
County Clerk Enders issued on Wednesday a license to Ed Cunningham who gave his residence as Thermopolis to marry Miss Ada Davidson of Burlington. The couple wed yesterday at 10 AM in Burlington and will reside in the area where the groom is employed. Ed Dunaway assisted in introducing the groom to the clerk and helped secure the license.
Mrs. Stanton at Elite Theatre reports strong attendance due to premier films. She mirrors major city offerings in service. An addition to the courthouse is under way, but contractor Stanton has been sued by the county commissioners.
In the early nineties K C Hoover moved with his father from the grammar and high schools to deputy county clerk, later running a real estate office. When Lou Blakesley would not be reappointed, Hoover entered the examination and application process, with the governor favorable. Hoover, once a county clerk nominee, is expected to be an efficient official due to his knowledge of lands and water courses.
Social Basin and Worland residents host guests including Mrs A A Ily Pauline Smith Mrs Cora Smith and Mrs Geo F Rae. Two major events dominated the week a Fraternity hall reception for Mr and Mrs Clyde W Atherly and Miss Marshall and a Woman's Club colonial dance with Washington impersonations and a grand march led by Mrs Suel J Spaulding.
