The effort around Lens intensifies with Canadians advancing to key rail embankments and colliery sidings. German counterattacks falter as Canadians contain the assault. no casualty estimates yet, while bombardment and trench fighting continue in northwest and southwest Lens sectors. Will Gibbs died Saturday morning after a Thursday operation. The patient had been in critical condition since entering the doctor’s care, as reported in our previous issue.

Pioneer passes away in Basin after long service

Mrs. J M Tillard born Sarah Jane Wragg in 1842 in Mt Pleasant Ohio married to John M Tillard in 1864 in Muscatine Iowa. The family moved to Basin in 1895 and she died at home on Monday with funeral held Tuesday at three o'clock led by Rev Wardlaw. Survived by husband six children.

Arrests In Land Dispute At Worland Sunday

On August 3 4 and 6 eight men located land east of Worland filed notices August 13. Locators named C J Hares Henry Sherard John MacFayden M D Woolery J Rh Penn F E Hurley D D Donnell and R J Berry. A later filing by Worland men August 18 saw a rig drilling holes ten to twenty feet deep guarded by seven deputies. The original locators were arrested when they tried to stop the work. Thirteen of the original locators were involved.

Outing at Cody Big Horn Basin Press Club session

The Big Horn Basin Press Club held a three day session in Cody inviting Newton Shaw and Prill from Cody. Guests arrived by afternoon train and a banquet preceded talks by visiting editors and publishers. The group then toured up the Shoshone canyon and traveled by three vehicles to the South Fork Valley Ranch for races roping and a grand entertainment amid mountain scenery.

Minor mishap at courthouse construction site

G H Starr superintendent of the new court house construction had a slight accident Thursday when a wheelbarrow loaded with brick tipped over. He escaped serious injury aside from torn clothes and a bruised back.

Dinner at Antlers for Business Men

The Cham ber of Commerce holds its regular meeting this evening at the Antlers hotel with a luncheon. Important matters will be decided and members are urged to attend. A sociability run to Lowell country is planned for early October to foster better ties between Basin farmers and town residents.

Homecoming for Hyattville Resident after California Visit

Mrs. R. A. Baldwin returns from California to Hyattville after about a year away. She says the trip was enjoyable but Hyattville looked good to her. Her mother accompanied her to spend the winter season.

German airships driven off as raids strike English coast

London reports detail a Royal Navy air squadron action near Ramsgate and Dover. Ten Gotha airships were attacked. one or two crossed to land, bombs hit three villages, killing 11 and wounding 13. Seven Gothas shot down, pilots injured, and all Allied planes returned safely.

Big Horn Press club meeting in Cody draws several reporters

Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Anderson and Boyd Osborn of The Republican and D. E. Lewis of the Rustler spent several days in Cody this week to attend the Big Horn Press club meeting. Mr. Lewis stopped at Lowell Monday and arrived in Basin Tuesday while the others arrived Monday evening.

Basin prepares streets for county fair cleanup

Basin city authorities are clearing the main thoroughfare from the drug store corner to the fair grounds in anticipation of the county fair during the first week of September. The street will be in fine condition by that time.
