R D McCalman state highways superintendent visited Basin on Tuesday en route to Cheyenne after attending a good roads meeting. He said bids for permanent construction near Washakie county and Madderson will be let soon and work will begin on several eight mile stretches toward Cody and the Meeteetse road. He noted government delays and red tape, urged county cooperation, and said the north south road project will be pursued with expedient surveys and funding decisions to start this fall.

Sheriff Catch Seizes Whiskey Truck and Suspect
The sheriff's office arrested G F Altmark Wednesday after he was found transporting two barrels and multiple cases of whiskey toward Montana. The cache included liquor reported from the Grabbert ranch on Liberty beach. The truck and booze were seized. Altmark was arraigned, pleaded guilty, and bound over to district court in $1,000 bonds. He has posed as a hide buyer and was under suspicion for illegal liquor traffic. Bonds were signed by Altmark and Basin State Bank as surety.
