EW buildings rise as Basin prepares for the Big Horn county fair from September 21 to 23. The event emphasizes a Farmers Fair with livestock and crop displays, plus new industrial exhibits by local business leaders. J R Bonwell displays seeds, the creamery and mill showcase products, merchants plan displays, and auto races add frontier entertainment.
Last Saturday W H Fouge chair man of Park county board and Ora Sommers met Cheyenne county officials for a conference. Sunday they were joined by T W Spratt Assessor L O Gray and West and later by Robert Steele and W Green at Worland Ther mopolis Charlie Anderson and R J Price joined. They plan further meetings with state board of equalization to align state assessments and reduce northern counties tax load. Oli Rigs Here The California OF company received a large ore rig for Torchflight claim built by Aaron Johnson and noted as one of the biggest rigs brought into the country.
John R. Bradley, financier of the Cook north pole expedition, visited Basin with his wife after traveling from New York in their car. They planned to pass through the Park toward the coast to view fairs, noting mixed road conditions due to heavy rains. He urged county and state officials to invest in improving routes into and through the Basin to accommodate rising auto traffic. Continued on page three.
J A Berry and wife and son Delbert returned Sunday from a trip to Red Lodge and Billings Montana. Berry reports a dramatic transformation in the area with dry farms and wheat yields of forty bushels per acre. Also notes sightseeing sisters and camping plans with friends from Otto. A fishing party led by O T Gebham and others fished Canyon Creek with good catches near Wigwam and large crowds watching Milo Burke.
Ed Meador, manager of the Mann, has had the depot repainted decorated and furnished and it is now in first class condition. Meador is running a first class display and the traveling public are well satisfied with what MH offers.
A court announces that no criminal cases will be tried by automobile in the near term. The decision affects how defendants are arraigned and may alter transport logistics for defendants and witnesses while other methods remain available.
A long list of civil case actions sets trial dates for September with change of judge orders and pending motions. Names include Big Horn Milling Co., First State Bank of Manderson, Farmers State Bank of Bridger, and numerous others. A Georgia couple in a six cylinder Pathfinder travels the Dixie highway to California and back, claiming a 17,000 mile journey earning a gold medal for distance.
The Swan Land and Cattle Co of Chugwater sold its entire wool clip to W. R. Adams of Fremont Nebraska. The 60,000 pound sale is said to be Wyoming’s largest single clip this season, as Adams, an independent buyer, also bought several other large Wyoming and western clips amid competition with eastern commission houses.
The Cleveland-Wyoming Oil Co received a long awaited car of casing Thursday evening allowing drilling to restart at the Frisby place. A new large rig is to be sent in east of Hasin within days as operations continue at speed despite prior delays. In a separate matter, Frank Tolman of Otto obtained a warrant against W J Moss W L Howe and C T Moore over alleged bodily harm, but after a hearing Justice Bouwell discharged the defendants finding no case. The dispute centers on refuge and unsettled cattle ranch land and Tolman’s attempt to drive his sheep into the area.
The friends of Miss Bessie Williams learn she is improving rapidly after an appendectomy and will be brought home Sunday. A good set of films is planned for the picture show tomorrow night.
July county expenses totaled 3968.07 with year to date 31557.92 and a remaining balance of about 243 of the regular appropriation. Local items note Lovell store removal, a carnival dance with Smith's orchestra, and a surprise party for Mrs Wise East with baskets and games.
Mr and Mrs Clark Longshore have shipped their household goods to Thermopolis to establish a new home. He will take a responsible mechanic position at a local garage. Earl Gebhart resumes his assistant role at the post office. A L Pulowmena v H Bullock state examiners arrive from Cheyenne for county records review.
Disturbances attributed to Mexicans spread from the border into Cameron Hidalgo and Starr counties. Rumors in Washington claimed a plan to reinstate Mexican control in Texas. Rangers pursued a gang that killed a U.S. trooper near Mercedes, capturing a banner reading Army of Liberation for Mexicans in Texas.
