Basin officials plan exhibit car to lure settlers

Basin leaders backed a plan to tour Des Moines and Lincoln with an exhibit car promoting farming in the Basin. A representative farmer would answer questions on crops and methods, travel with the car, and help attract settlers, with cost not to exceed 150 dollars a month. Committees to fundraise and pick the man were formed, and Burlington officials approved the idea after discussions with local clubs and railroad officials.

Basin Oil Firm Plans Immediate Drilling In Basin Area

Announcement this week states Basin OW company will begin drilling on three and one half miles of Basin land. M4 Coton, the ost neer for the company, says development funds are ready and work will be pushed quickly. The firm owns 320 acres adjoining the Minor claim where gas was struck earlier. an oil flow is hoped, or gas may power a large irrigation project. Drilling aims to reach the Greybull sands at about 1,700 feet. potential refinery near the Big Horn Basin is discussed if pay quantities are found.

Honor To Basin Fifth Annual Burlington Railroad Surgeons Program

The Republican notes the Fifth Annual meeting of the surgeons and ooullate of the Burlington railroad in Chicago on September 8. Off for Wheatland with Captain West's Company

Captain West and the Gallant Company Dish Leave for Camp yesterday amid cheers. The troop travels with 38 from Lavell and others from Cady joining en route. They stop at Thermopol for overnight camp and plan to train toward Wheatland then Cheyenne for Frontier Days. The Basin company shows strong gear and the unit earns town pride as one of the finest National Guard companies.

Progress Dinner At Frontier Presided By Ridge ly

The Progress club met at the Frontier on Wednesday with President H. B. Ridge ly presiding. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved and several letters discussed. A three person committee was appointed to negotiate with Basin progress clubs, arrange representation, financing, and a campaign to publicize the county. The meeting adjourned to next Wednesday noon.

Fire at Machine Lumber Yard Narrowly Contained

Deceday night around 11 30 oclock a fire started in the paint shop near the rooms occupied by A B Hagemaes and others at the Machine Lumber Yard. B Jenkins and DeRoyce Dodbey slept nearby. Jenkins woke to alarm as flames endangered the building. Firefighters halted spread, saving the lumber company from heavy losses if unchecked.

Murder Near Cody Ends With Self Defense Claim

John Ganoches a Mexican shepherd was shot and killed near Cody last Monday morning by John Cunningham. The men had a dispute over two flocks. Cunningham says self defense, though no gun was found on the dead man. The coroner’s jury returned a verdict of no verdict while the prosecutor prepared a first degree murder charge. This marks the first murder in the new county.

Infant Lois Hale Dies of Cholera Infantum

The six month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Himo Hale died Monday from cholera infantum aged six months and fifteen days. Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the family home in Cook's addition with Rev Morten Joan presiding. Interment followed in the local cemetery.
