Sheriff Wickwire Leads Bid to Crack Wool Theft Ring

Sheriff Wickwire and deputies Frank Christensen and John P. Zane are praised for a week of arrests across Basin and nearby towns. Dick Moore, Don Miller, and three Greybull men faced charges for thefts including wool. Miller and McCarty sentenced or sent to prison. Ralph Mercer and wife visited town from Paint Rock.

Post Office Building To Be Built Soon In Basin

A letter to Postmaster A W Coons reports that all drawings for the proposed Basin post office are complete. The government printing office will publish specifications within a week or two and the treasury department will advertise for bids. Delays due to war emergency may extend beyond a month.

Kendrick Pushes Rapid Start for New Building

In a letter to the office the author pledges a special appeal to begin work as soon as material is ready. The supervising architect has assured rapid progress and expects occupants to move into new quarters before the current lease expires.

Miss Bessie Smith of Oregon Missouri arrived in Basin at the start of the week to visit at the home of Mr and Mrs Je C Stewart. She is a sister of Mrs Stewart and is making many friends during her stay.

Man Recovers From Infected Finger After Operation

Robert Henderson suffered an infected finger requiring surgery earlier this week. The condition is improving nicely this time.

Court Records In Good Shape Highlight County Land Activity

The district court clerk’s office shows strong land business with 63 filings on 640 acre homesteads and 68 on desert claims. Frank I Rue has earned commendations from state and national authorities for meticulous land records handling. Over $1 200 in cash was turned over to the county treasurer from court fees and receipts.

Mrs Algeo Improves After Appendectomy at Basin Hospital

On Sunday afternoon about one o'clock Mrs T F Algeo underwent an operation for acute appendicitis at Basin hospital. The appendix was badly inflamed but her condition is not very serious. She is able to take regular nourishment and is growing stronger rapidly.

Captain Sawyer Honored by Mrs Freeman in Basin

Mrs Freeman honors Captain Guy P Sawyer this week with his wife and baby visiting Basin. The captain, a niece of Mrs Freeman, plans to report for duty soon as orders arrive for mobilization camps.

Hyde Family Returns from Kansas Trip

Mr and Mrs Thomas M Hyde and son completed a six week automobile journey to Iola Kansas, faced engine and tire trouble near Cheyenne, then arrived home to cheerful reception. They were joined on the return by Mrs McCann and Miss Mary McNamara niece of Mr Hyde visiting for a couple weeks before Miss McNamara begins Red Cross service.

Denver Capitalists Open New Addition

A north town addition opened by Collins Land Co was taken over by Denver capitalists led by Joe Henry. Land from W. S. Collins is split into 50 by 140 foot lots and acre tracts with a special water right from Big Horn Irrigation Co. Free irrigation water is provided. A. H. Hartman of Casper is in charge of marketing the property. Plans call for several new houses as Basin grows into a city of prosperous residents.

Woman organizes home economics clubs in Basin area

After meetings in Worland Thermopolis and nearby towns Mrs Armstrong returned to Basin Wednesday afternoon and organized local women into home economics clubs while lecturing on conserving the territory food supply.
