Progress Association Minutes Report and Mortgage News

In the absence of leaders the Progress Association held a meeting with minutes read and a Wyoming Publicity Association communication noted. They discussed exhibits for the land shows, immigration-law aims, and ongoing committee work including advertising, road, and farm exhibit efforts. membership reached 78 with 46 in good standing. A large mortgage of 40,000 dollars on Tensleep and Bonanza land was filed with Union Trust. S. T. Johnson returned to Burlington.

Special Meeting Approves Water Plant Changes and Debates Repairs

City council held a special session to approve water system improvements including laying mains on Sixth Street from B to E and connecting a 2 inch line at the gulch with larger mains. Plans for plant wall changes and boiler fortification were ordered. Deed to Mountain View cemetery lot for the G A R post and a $10,000 allowance for Katz Craig progress were approved, with engineer A C Moore paid $141 and bond adjustments ordered.

Frank In Town Promotes Rod and Gun Club Plans

Paint Rock resident Freak Gapes visited town and said second haying will start the first of the week with exceptionally good crops. He plans to present the rod and gun club proposal to the Hyattville Commercial Club tomorrow night seeking support and participation.

Our neighbor the Rustler faces press shortages and delayed rollers. The edition for this week was printed and folded in the office. Basin newspapers, always ready to help, assist each other during accidents or misfortune.

A new police telephone booth for the Night Officer Jack Halen has been built at the Drg Hem County Bank corner. It is painted and metalled and will feature a large gong on top to signal the central office when night calls are made to the police phone.

Jacob Rieth of Cowley a former subject of Austria yesterday filed his intention to become a citizen of the United States before Clerk of the District Court W F Brown.

Local county fair prizes offered for wheat and potatoes

Lincoln Nebraska resident Senos Bansal and George Randal announce prizes from J R Bonwell to stimulate county fair interest. Ten dollars for the best half bushel of county wheat and five dollars for the best county raised potatoes. Judging by fair officials, exhibits become donor property after the fair. no entrance fee. boxes provided. exhibits must show grower name and post office address.

County Assessor Total Valuation Sees Sharp Rise

From county assessor figures the total valuation climbs to 21 407 626 with a marked increase over the prior year. The document notes the prior value and references the assessment, though portions of the text are garbled.

Sheridan adopts commission plan by 20 vote margin

In last Tuesday’s election Sheridan voters approved the commission form of government by a narrow twenty vote majority. Voter turnout was light with little interest and just over half of eligible residents cast ballots. Lee Hake and friends from Worland visited this week in Mr Hake’s automobile.

Hartigan Seeks Basia Stay as Cody Club Secretary Visits Basin

Gilmore Hartigan, secretary of the Cody club, is visiting Basin this week. He expects a brother from St. Joseph, Missouri, to arrive soon and will show him the nights in Basin, possibly prompting a longer stay. Licenses may be secured from all justices of the peace and deputy game wardens.

Local Boy Undergoes Appendicitis Operation

Abert Teyler son of H C Teyler of Germania underwent an appendicitis operation this week performed by Drs Harris and Harris. He recovered from the procedure and is expected to be in complete health soon.

First Bird Man Demonstrations At Basin Fair

Open Season Across Counties For Sage Grouse And Game

The season opens Tuesday with sage grouse allowed until September 30 except in Sheridan and Natrona counties where none may be killed on Tuesdays. other grouse seasons run Sept 26 to Nov 30. In Albany, Carbon, Laramie and Sweetwater counties all grouse may be shot Aug 1 to Sep 15. General game animals harvest runs Sept 1 to Apr 1. Resident licenses cost 1.50 for birds, 2.50 for elk deer sheep and birds. special license 5 allows one more elk. Nonresident gunner license 5 enables birds, alien 20 allows birds and 66 for two elk two deer one sheep and birds.

Sheridan Militia Musters Out and Equipment Heads East

After two weeks of local opposition to disbanding the Sheridan militia company, Captain West reports to Adjutant General Barkwell that the unit will go to Wheatland camp and the Frontier show at Cheyenne. The Sheridan company is said to have been mustered out for inefficiency and insubordination, with the governor in charge of military affairs and orders to ignore Sheridan’s local press.

Crop conditions across the central states declined modestly as rains eased feed shortages, pastures improve, and hay demand softens. Wheat yields are good with fair corn, oats steady, and prices for September futures mixed. Death by Own Action in Wheatland Blacksmith Case

John Jesse, a Wheatland blacksmith, died last Sunday by drinking chloroform in his shop after inviting a friend to join him. The friend believed a joke, but Jesse broke the bottle and died almost immediately. Survived by his wife and three children. no reason for the death can be assigned.
