Juries Fail 10 Agree in Wyoming Court Roundup

In Cloverly and Shell creek country trials concluded with mixed outcomes. The Leavitt v Allen jury failed to reach a damageless verdict, while Lampman v C B Q railroad settled. Bryant v Dow awarded 1.00 to the defendant. Ward Blackburn pleaded guilty to statutory rape and faces 6 to 8 years. Other cases included State v Ward Blackburn and State v Richard Walker with varied sentences.

Tolman v C B and C Railroad damages verdict

A jury awarded Tolman $2,800 in a sheep loss case against the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Attorneys for Tolman were Hyde and Brome, for the railroad Zaring and Goddard.

City Council Approves Water Pump and Transformers

At a city council meeting the authorization of a six inch Manistre pump and two transformers was approved to run the existing machinery. The new equipment is expected in about sixteen weeks and will enable full water supply from the present source, safeguarding the town from a possible water famine later this summer.

Miss Hazel V. Lawrence left this week for Seattle where she expects to visit her parents for an extended period. During her absence John Landfair will head the district court clerk office. Landfair has long served as assistant and knows the work.

Forgery Suspect Arrested After Bank Check Incident

Deputy Sheriff H F Ruble brought Orvill Wortham from Greybull to jail on forgery charges after a sequence of counterfeit checks cashed in Greybull. Wortham and his brother Roy faced a preliminary hearing before Justice Harding. both bound over in $500 bonds, Roy posting bail while Orvill remained jailed. Paul Moss represented the defendants.

Chamber of Commerce Plans for Good Roads Meeting

A well attended Chamber of Commerce meeting recessed with a committee assigned to host visiting delegates for the upcoming good roads gathering. A. B. Martin R. R. Ferris and B. M. Eppelsheimer will supervise the entertainment for about 100 arriving delegates, with two sessions scheduled tomorrow afternoon and evening.

County Convention to Select Delegates for Sheridan Meet

The Republican county convention will be held in Basin next Tuesday with strong turnout expected. Delegates chosen will attend the state convention in Sheridan on the 10th. a special train with Pullmans will run on the 9th for delegates from this section.

State highway patrol system adopted for county road upkeep

The state highway commission reallocates maintenance funds by county valuation and uses a patrol system. Patrolmen live near the roads, operate graders and tools, and maintain eight to ten miles each. They respond quickly to rain damage and aim for economical, systematic road care across districts.

W H May Publicity Director urges Basin residents to support a year long campaign. The Basin Chamber of Commerce rolls out BASIN FACTS a 36 page folder and a forthcoming monthly magazine to attract homeseekers and boost publicity. The note condemns freeloaders and praises teamwork and consistent investing in local promotion.

Ground broken for new M. E. Church on Sixth and B streets

Yesterday the M. E. church at the corner of Sixth and B streets began construction with Hime Bros. the contractor. They expect to start work immediately and will employ a large workforce until completion.

Those responsible for the civic forum and allied organizations plan a meeting at the library next Wednesday night. The Chamber of Commerce rooms are unavailable due to a scheduled chamber meeting that evening.

The Basin Chamber of Commerce will mail an illustrated booklet to inquirers about the region. Col. W. H. May compiled the starter, with a monthly magazine to follow. Exhibits at major fairs and self-sustaining advertising aim to attract settlers and reduce idle land.

Judkins and Son Form Vulcanizing and Auto Accessories Firm

F. E. Judkins and son Luther form a partnership and buy the Frisby building from Fred Frisby. They will open soon with vulcanizing services and a full line of automobile accessories and plan to install modern machinery. Both are long time local residents with community support anticipated.

Parade Tonight Showcases Primary Grade Dancers

The Midget Parade promises a rare entertainment with primary grade children performing folk dances. Proceeds will fund a Victrola for the first grades.

Basin to Host First Annual Inter High Meet and Contests

Basin hosts the first annual inter high school track and field meet, plus a declamatory and musical contest, next Thursday and Friday. The declamatory event occurs May 6 with humorous dramatic and oratorical classes, while the musical contest class divisions depend on grade. The track events include sprints, distance, hurdles, throws, jumps, and relays, scheduled for next Friday afternoon with many entrants expected from each town.

The group will affiliate with the American Association of Title Men and the next meeting is set for Torrington on July 19.

Blackburn Pays for Escape and Re-sentencing

Wade Blackburn, recently sentenced by Judge Metz to 6 to 8 years, had previously escaped from jail last October. Sheriff Wickwire pursued him, locating him in Idaho and returning him for serving the term. Wickwire vows tougher outcomes for future escapes.

Porter Motter Exhibit Draws Large Library Crowd

The Porter Motter art exhibit at the library draws a large crowd this week. Mrs. B K VanDevender, county superintendent of schools, secured the exhibit. A small admission fee was charged and an impromptu program held each evening. Proceeds fund school picture purchases.
