Waeman's Club Notes on Literature and Local Color

The Woman's Waeman's Club met in the library rooms last Wednesday with good attendance. A measurement of local color in American fiction was discussed with readings from Mark Twain and Jack London. Members read from The Virginian and Winning of Barbara Worth while Mrs Belton and Miss Lauritsen shared author lists and biographical notes. Refreshments were served by a committee including Hartigan Hyde Morton Landfair and O'Neill.

Pickering Hastings Marriage At Whitmore Residence

Rev A M Creath marries A K Pickering and Miss Lulu Hastings at the Whitmore home in Basin in a small ceremony attended by a few friends. Pickering is a partner in Pickering Bros contractors, well known in oil territory and Basin business circles. The bride recently arrived from Lafayette Colorado and will live in Basin. Foundation Completed for Gibson Furniture Store

The foundation for the new William Gibson furniture store is finished and carpentry on the wood structure has begun. Crews will push to completion as rapidly as possible. Car Of Cattle. Surprise Party For Mrs Rhodes Birth Day

Last Wednesday Mrs M B Rhodes celebrated her birthday with a surprise visit from friends who played games over an evening. A lunch and candies followed with Easter novelties as gifts. Separately, Mrs E J Allen won a divorce from B J Allen with custody of the minor children after a lengthy court session with many witnesses.

Inspection trip finds Basin plant in good shape

J C Owens district manager of Billings and C L Eaton division accountant of Butte led a Basin inspection with Mr McIntyre division construction foreman of Helena Mrs Griffith traffic department of Denver and Mrs Clark district office chief of Billings. They found everything in good condition Miss Elizabeth McArdle of North Dakota and Miss M Van Arsale have accepted positions in the local office.

Bought Millinery Store Sold to Mrs Drumm in Town

This week Mrs Harry Drumm purchased the millinery store run by Mrs Stella Lucas. She will move stock to the Denny building west of the Big Horn County Bank and keep an up to date assortment of millinery goods and ladies wear. Also notes a ninth birthday for Katherine Extra and an eleventh for Milton Smith celebrated with friends and lunch. Miss Martha Johnson of Basin reports she made the trip home from Nebraska with her mother last week and feels greatly improved. Friends here welcome the update and extend wishes for continued health.

Little Gem Te Move to New Restaurant Quarters

Harry Bailey of the Little Gem restaurant will move next Monday into the room now occupied by Mrs Stella Lucas, a millinery store. The business has grown, requiring larger quarters, and the new location is among the best in town. He plans new fixtures and an upgraded setup to become one of the area’s best equipped establishments and to expand as demand grows.

Bottling Works Sold to R A Gould in Basin

Last Monday the final transfer of the Basin Bottling Works was made and R A Gould the new owner took possession. This manufacturing enterprise is of considerable importance as a large amount of soft drinks produced here are shipped throughout the Basin where they find ready sale. Gould will devote all his time to the business and will always keep stock on hand for same day shipments.

New Bank Examiner Appointed in Wyoming and Utah

W. E. Fair, formerly assistant state examiner under J. C. Newlin, has been named national bank examiner for Wyoming and part of Utah. He succeeds Harry Weston, who resigned to become cashier of a Laramie bank. Fair is well known in Basin business circles.

Oil men from Cody visit Basin to review conditions

Old Men Here J M Sewood and ooge T Beck of Cody spent the week in Basin. They were joined by P Lamberton of Oklahoma and Dr J H Von Hagen of Atlantic City N J. The party surveyed Basin oil conditions and reported satisfaction with findings.

Arbor Day Planting At Carnegie Library Memorial Ash Tree

Arbor Day will be observed today at the Carnegie Library with the planting of a memorial ash tree to Shakespeare. Exercises are scheduled for four o'clock by grammar school children, featuring a Maypole dance by the primary pupils.
