New Rex Theatre Opens With High Class Shows

Basin’s Rex theatre opened Tuesday in the new Fraternity Hall building owned by G. G. Walter. The packed opening night featured five reels and Hawaiian melody, with a four hundred seat, up-to-date interior and stages for general shows. Walter contracts Metro, Fox, Triangle and Paramount pictures for regular and special screenings.

Local Theatre Presents The Virginian at Rex Theatre

Rev Eklund and Mr Wootton announce a benefit for Basin community services. On April 24 at Rex theatre Owen Wister and Kirke LaShelle's The Virginian will be staged with a carefully selected cast and complete scenic and electrical effects.

Basin to Build Luman Hotel for Sixty Five Thousand

Basin prepares a stock company to erect the Luman Hotel at Fourth and B streets, with a $65,000 budget. John Luman named president, Harry Hime vice president, Thomas Bishop secretary treasurer. Building, designed by architect William Dubois of Cheyenne, will include a bank office, lobby dining room, 27 guest rooms on the second floor, 30 rooms on the third, baths in about 30 rooms, private telephone exchange, grill room, billiard parlor, and modern facilities. Construction to start in about sixty days and finish in four months.

Washington April 18 The House Military Committee approves amendments to the administration bill, authorizing volunteers in 500000 increments and making draft apply only if the volunteer system cannot raise and maintain forces. Sioux City Men Tour Basin for Prospective Business

A group of Sioux City Iowa men visited Basin Sunday and Monday to scout opportunities. W J Hagan stayed to chat with locals then joined the rest of the party on Monday and expressed satisfaction with Basin and the welcome received.

Live Wire Club Honors Walter and Plans Theatre Event

The Live Wire club met Monday night with new members joining weekly and an initiation ceremony in the works. A request was read for members to attend a Thursday evangelistic campaign meeting at the stone school house, and Rev. R. M. Jones was thanked for the invitation. To honor Walter, members voted to attend Rex theatre opening in a body, about one hundred tickets were sold, and home talent will stage the show at Walter’s theatre. A minstrel show plan is forthcoming.

Billings visitors tour Basin and Lovell prospects

Messrs Terrill and Miller of Billings toured the Basin country last Saturday. They visited Lovell before Basin and found the Inland Empire live and hustling with promising prospects. County Commissioner Chas Welch of Cowley inspected the new courthouse project yesterday.

Ground Broken for New Court House in Basin

The Basin project moves forward with corner stakes placed by Commissioner T W Spratt and County Engineer Schenk. Excavation begins under J F Dickman supervision as Dow and Starr of Denver oversee construction of a 160 by 68 foot foundation. The $60,000 building aims for occupancy early fall with Denver and local crews, plus Monarch Engineering Co located offices on the square.

Woman's Club Sets April 25 Meeting on Latin American Women

The Woman's club will hold its next meeting on April 25 at 3 PM with the topic The Women of Latin America. Mrs. Thos. M. Hyde serves as afternoon chairperson for this Pan American program finale. Members urged to attend promptly for an important business meeting. Vic Olson and wife from Uto and Ian Crandall from Beaver Creek were in town yesterday for shopping and county business.

French forces drive deep into German positions from Soissons to Rheims capturing villages and hundreds of prisoners. In Ville-Au-Bois the enveloping move forced 1 300 German surrenders and 180 machine guns. Between Juvincourt and the Aisne a German counterattack was repulsed as the war material fell into French hands.
