Repairs Completed Bring Big Horn Canal Water Back

Dr. M H Smith secretary of the Big Horn Canal Co reports water turned into the canal last Monday reaching Ten Mile. Foreman Emerson is reducing weeds and thistles as the line progresses. A new ditch around the old siphon at Ten Mile is finished and in good shape to prevent delays. New headgates spillways and strengthened structures reduce risk of outages. River intake improved. gravity and low water still yield adequate flow. Managers promise farmers reliable water at the right time, canal in excellent condition.

Acme Shows Plan Two Saturday Screenings and Contests

The Acme Shows announces two Saturday performances starting at 7 30 with a boys contest for Basin youths who bring clean socks and a free ticket. A second show around 9 leads into entertainment. Sunday features Jolly Pull Company. April 14-15 bring Lewis Company vaudeville and a big Paramount feature at 15 and 36 cents on the new projection.

Change in Furniture Store Ownership Sealed

Wm Gibeon becomes sole owner of Bagin Furniture Store replacing retiring partner C L Vande vender. Vande vender will tour the coast and attend the Sam Franciago fair. Gibson, four years postmaster, brings extensive experience and will share duties. Otto residents petition for a new bridge over the Od condoms bridge, citing safety concerns. council delay noted.

Assessors At Work In County And Willard Johnson Fight

Deputy assessors begin county wide field work delayed by census law. Plans include census data and jury qualification plus poll tax rules. Willard defeats Johnson in Havana in 26th round to claim world heavyweight title. Willard 238 pounds aged 28, Johnson 225 pounds aged 37. Evening cards host by Mrs Rutam with Frank Wire and Mrs Bolduc winning first prize.

District Court Discharges Jury After Lengthy Session

Last Saturday Judge Metz sentenced several prisoners from this term. Dell Drake received a term between four and seven years for manslaughter. William Murphy, age 63, got the same term set for Drake due to age and intoxication. George Cobb drew one year to fourteen months for breaking into a house near Otto. The Brewer versus Gould damages case produced a verdict of 1400 dollars plus costs after jurors remained unable to agree initially. Wyoming Irrigating Co. v Broadmoore Land Co. and others involved a mortgage dispute decided in favor of plaintiffs at 4202.12. State v McGarvie involved assault with nol pros motion. Union Inc. Co v C H Johnson et al. favored plaintiffs. The jury was discharged Tuesday as the court adjourned. Alvin Carothers v Marie Carothers, divorce granted. Ek. M. Brewer v Minnie Brewer ended with a pending proceeding to Sheridan. A social party at John Zane’s home for single men featured staged games and a fine lunch, described as a highlight of the season. Edward B Robertson, Cody outfit manager, announced large cattle feeding plans for next winter, aiming to expand in Germania and Cody country, with the Basin region as a premier finishing hub.

Mondell Secures Promise to Pay Kane Damages

Congressman Mondell and the interior department have worked to settle farm emu damages near Kane caused by the Shoshone river reservoir. Reclamation Service promised over eight thousand dollars, but contracts were needed before payment. Local counsel to prepare formal agreements and forward them for immediate payment upon receipt.

School Meeting Approves Census and Principal Contract

Grammar school trustees held a meeting to approve bills and add a census. H. Smith was assigned to take the school census. The board contracted with Prof Puchs to serve as principal of the consolidated school next year at an annual salary of 1400 dollars. AM members of the board were present.

Shipping Cattle to Denver Market

W B Soblaf and R K L Preator of Burlington loaded several wrs of cattle at this point and shipped to the Denver market. These two gentlemen are successful in the cattle business and deliver top quality stock. C McCarty of Casper shipped game sheep on the sale train, having recently purchased from Will Agee of Burlington.

Accident Narrows Escape After Poisoning At Greybull River

Mrs Alma Keele residing on the Greybull River above Otto mistakenly took bichloride pills instead of medicine. Dr Herbert Harris rushed to the ranch and saved her with stomach pumping and an antidote. She is improving with no serious outcome expected.

The Basin Band and their members, led by Frank Smith, devote time to practice and a recent street concert drew a crowd. With steady guidance, they aim to become a leading community band and deserve continued public support.

Last Saturday night at Mrs. Al Blake's Basin home Evalina Hale wed George Chapman. They will live on Shell Creek, with Basin ties strong. Rev. A M Qreath officiated before a small guest list. Miss Jennie Gibbs and Orr Lampman served as attendant. A supper by the bride's mother followed, and many gifts were given.

Shipping Hogs and Hanner to Expand Ranch Plans

D W Hanner of Basin and Otto returned from Denver with hogs to his Otto ranch. He was disappointed at prices but plans a larger beet and grain crop next season. He will run more sheep with hogs and rent to Japanese tenants. Local court adjourned suddenly and several officials left for home. M D Harris of Lovell joined county commissioners with news of his bean crop and fruit yields.

German Raider Interned as U S Receives Request

Newport News April 7 German auxiliary cruiser Prinz Eitel Frederick will intern its ship and crew after failing to receive relief. Commander Max Thierichens cited inability to escape and fruitless options. Italian ships mobilize at Augusta and Taranto. In England the drink question dominates cabinet deliberations with no decision reached.

Bonwell Leases Basin County Seed Farm

J R Bonwell entered a multi tract lease with the county commissioners to operate the Basin area poor farm and the adjoining Lewis and Coons tract. He plans a large seed farm this year supplying dining cars and Plaining hotel in Cheyenne with garden produce. Next year he will merge the business and launch a nationwide pure seed campaign. Basin climate praised for seed perfection amid low rainfall.

Lou Blakesley celebrates milestone birthday surprise

Yesterday marked Lou Blakesley’s 47th birthday and his daughter Edna’s 22nd. A small group of friends including John Zane R. J. Extra R. A. Gould F P Bristow and Mabel Tallon gathered for games and lunch. Tokens left hinted birthdays occur more often as time passes.

Woman's Club Meeting and Local Notes

The Woman's club will hold its regular meeting next Wednesday after noon with a program led by Mrs. Zola Murphy, chairwoman of the legislation and conservation committee. L. S. Craul arrived from Hyattville, noting oil development near Bonanza faced delays but expected activity later in the season. Miss Gladys Gebhart visited Hyattville to stay with her mother and assist her sister, Mrs. J. Donabae.
