Obituary notes A C Schermerhorn longtime Barton county resident and former district court clerk died at his Hutchinson home on Oct 29 at about age 60. Born in New York, he moved to Barton county in 1574, lived in Independent township, later ran a Great Bend business, and spent 16 years in Hutchinson. Funeral rites were held in Great Bend Nov 1 with Knights Templar and G A R presence. He leaves a wife Lena Teed and son Robert, plus a large circle of friends.
The Progress Club met with Mrs. Caro Oc on the 27th, Miss Anna Taylor led a thorough talk on Greek prose, Herodotus Thucydides and Xenophon with readings, followed by a discussion. Members read Stoddard’s lectures, and current events covered Parthenon repairs. Athenian Club invitation for Nov 3 was accepted. next meeting at Mrs. Davis’s home in ten weeks. Also includes ad copy for Mosogram stove and heater promotions, and a note of Frederick Gowdy and Minn May Gowdy’s marriage in Claflin.
