Barstow High School Opens With 1111 Students

Barstow High School opened on Tuesday September 10 with an enrollment of 1111 students 55 girls and 56 boys. Freshmen numbered 89 and the class distribution included 33 sophomores 21 juniors 17 seniors and 1 post graduate. The first day saw crowded classes with some rooms reaching near forty students and the sewing room repurposed as a classroom.

Camp Established on New Barstow-Yermo Highway

A model road camp with cabins and facilities is being built northeast of Barstow for an eight month stay of workers constructing the new state highway. The contractor has begun moving dirt.

Parents Association to Resume Meetings at Grammar School

Mrs. Harry Kelly, president, announces the Parent Teachers Association will start holding meetings again next Tuesday, September 17 at 3 o'clock in the grammar school auditorium. Everyone welcome. Mrs. A B Jensen and baby Jean spent two weeks on the Venice beach and will return Friday. Mrs. Ira Ramsey hosted Mrs. Jordan of Oklahoma and Miss Soward of Pasadena. Miss Nellie Cooper returned from Santa Monica with her hut Mary Bushnell. L B Poole and daughter of Helendale returned from an 8000 mile auto trip thru the south and east. Poole runs the Helendale Garage.

Mr and Mrs A H Anderson returned from their ranch at Shafter. Mr and Mrs Dee Cooper drove to Los Angeles last Thursday and returned Sunday with two new Fords for the Barstow Garage. One was a light truck and the other a high school bus.
