C Crain of Victorville nearly won a four-way primary for San Bernardino County First District supervisor. Dr Stauter of Needles opposes Crain in the general election. Leading candidates benefited from strong home precinct support while several strong precincts reported no results yet.

Bear Valley Schoolhouse Contract Awarded to Redlands Builder

A. E. Taylor of Redlands won the bid to build the Big Bear Valley schoolhouse at 3190, with rivals Ed Haussinger at 4475 and G Huizing at 8200. The slab and shingle structure will include a classroom and staff housing of three rooms, offices, and ante-rooms, aiming for completion by October 1.

Vivisection Threat Hits California Livestock Industry

Poultry hog and cattle producers warn anti vivisection initiative would halt chickenpox vaccine hog cholera serum and other remedies in California. They say imports from other states would be difficult and unsanitary and that research on eliminating food poisons would be driven from the state.

Kidnapping leads to Barstow mystery involving Long Beach family

Jack Royal a Long Beach boy was abducted at the Harvey House Barstow by two men in a Franklin car. He was doped and hidden across baggage. later followed by his pursuers who escaped. Royal and family traveled to Barstow while authorities traced the stolen car. The incident blamed on enemies of his mining father H J Royal in Long Beach.

Fire at Wild Station Destroys Three Cars

Last Friday at 11 30 p m three bank cars burned at Wild Station eight miles west of Bartow. Telegraph operators Jane Humphreys Della Peters Etta Gillard and Blanch Gillard guest rode to Helendale. The women saved the station by hosing it down but telegraph lines were cut between Barstow and San Bernardino. Loss estimated near $3000 with riding clothes the only personal salvage. Restoration of telegraph service credited to J M Breese and G S Disney.

Barstow Labor Day Celebration Set For Monday

Barstow Labor Council organizers plan a Labor Day event at Grammar School grounds with two San Bernardino orchestras, Marsh Field soldiers, a barbecue at 1 50 p m, foot races, moving pictures, a fat man’s race and a tug of war challenge. A 3 00 p m ball game vs March Field, 4 00 p m to 9 00 p m moving pictures, dancing at Fletcher hall and Victory theatre, plus free admission for all from Victorville Daggett Yermo Hinkley Needles and nearby districts.

Barstow is hosting a Mexican Independence Day observance September 16 with invitations ordered in native language and colors. Dynamite Adams to Lecture on Sunday Observation

Reverend J G Adams of Long Beach known as Dynamite will lecture at Hinkley on Saturday September 4 at 8 PM and Sunday September 5 at 11 AM on why Sunday is observed as the Lord's Day. He will also lecture in Barstow Sunday at 2 PM at the Free Methodist Mission. Everyone invited.
