Gus Holmes, manager and secretary of the National Park to Park Highway association, visited Barstow on a touring mission to assess road conditions for publicity and future informer bureaus. He credited local newspapers for support, noted California’s Barstow route as a key feeder, and urged local business vigilance to advance paving from Victorville to Barstow as the National Park to Park Highway expands.
