A recently struck oil well near Bakersfield flowed 100 barrels per day from a depth of 4,836 feet in a zone deemed dry. Mrs. Matie Jones led the project successfully. Local curiosity asks whether she used a Ouija board or witch hazel.
Piioneer miner Ph. Tr. Baerd, then cutting wood on the Sprauade Ranch, previously worked at the Water Man silver mine near Barstow in 1882 when the shaft was about 200 feet deep. He says about 75 men were employed there in rich silver ore deposits before the mine reached the 00 level.
Amrother Gold Producer engineer Frank Green, pioneer on the Parker branch, is a heavy stock holder in the Rainbow Mining Company and this time the Rainbow has a real money bag on the end of it. It is a gold producer nine miles west of Vidal and ships gold bullion to San Francisco.
