Barstow notes cover travel to Los Angeles San Bernardino and Denver visits. Local figures include Lubin J Henderson tailoring promotions and a dress goods update. Community events feature a dance by Old Times Club and a Womans Improvement Club ice cream social.
Through traffic on the valley line jointly used by the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific has been cut for a week due to the burning of timber and cavern of tunnel No 15. Regular traffic was diverted around the tunnel by automobile and night trains rerouted via the coast line. Through freights and most passenger business moved over the coast line with only slight delays.
G. W. Hopkins of Ludlow, long noted as a bold desert officer, becomes chief of the Santa Fe officers on the Arizona division succeeding W. A. Shay. Shay takes a two week vacation before assuming the police chief post here on June 1. Hopkins departed for the desert after a Los Angeles trip where promotion arrangements were completed. Barstow regrets losing Chief Shay but gains Hopkins.
Sunday School at 10 a.m. Bible study at 11 a.m. morning service at 11 a.m. evening service at 7 45 p.m. Prayer meeting on Wednesday at 7 45 p.m. Rev Day serves as minister.
The Barstow Gospel Mission outlines Sunday School at 10 a m for next Sabbath. Next Saturday is the pastor's last Sunday before Conference and attendance is urged. If he is not returned a new minister may be sent. The church doors open for anyone wishing to unite at the morning service.
