Man Killed On Railroad Near Barstow Yard
A Salt Lake City train crew found a dead man near the west end of the yards after 10 p.m. Friday. The Portugese victim, about 5 ft 6 in, 135 pounds, dark, clean shaven, wore dark clothes, a corduroy cap, and high boots. No identification except two Los Angeles street meeting photos. Coroner's jury viewed the body Saturday and burial followed in Barstow by White & Platt.

Needles Fire Destroys Multiple Businesses in District
A major blaze swept Needles last night damaging property worth over 25 000 dollars. The fire gutted a second hand furniture store and the Needles Eye, Warren block and Welch rooming house and store, plus a lumber yard. Insurance covered most losses. Santa Fe and volunteers fought the flames under low water pressure and wind, restraining spread. Separately, a 50 000 dollar suit by attorney C C Haskell against The Evening Index began, before Judge Church in Fresno. testimony underway and trial expected to last about a week.
