Barstow Raises Honor Flag Over Post Office

Barstow celebrated with the flag raising at 8 p.m. in front of the post office as a nine star honor flag was unfurled. Attorney R. Ek. Hodge of San Bernardino praised Barstow for going over the top in the Third Liberty Loan and urged continued support for Red Cross and soldiers.

Doctor Morhodge to Speak for Red Cross in Mojave Chapter

San Francisco headquarters sent Dr. Joseph Morhodge to address the Mojave River Valley Chapter on May 7. He has toured the Pacific Division and impressed audiences with his experience as an American Medical Missionary to Armenia and as a German and Turkish wartime internee.

Gold Medal Contest in Sloan's Hall

In Barstow Sloan's Hall hosts a small Gold Medal contest with only three entrants from the High School district. Contestants from Victorville include Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Haynes, with Miss Gobel and Miss Clark providing vocal and violin numbers. Mrs. Lippincott wins the medal as the judges deliberate. an old fashioned picnic is announced for May 11 near Barstow's bathing beach.

Barstow News Roundup Touches Transfers and Delays

Sheriff McMinn roamed Barstow on official business Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents await homecomings from Santa Barbara and Needles while local families prepare for visits. The town reports dog poisonings, fishing party travels, and a May 16 meeting for Barstow Daggett and Hinkley.

Red Cross Members Busy at Daily Meetings

Barstow Bay Enlists in Navy as Hospital Apprentice

A Barstow resident, William Edward Webster, has joined the U S Navy at Los Angeles Navy Recruiting Station as hospital apprentice and will serve at the front. Enlistments span the war duration and drafted men may enter the Navy. Postmasters and the Recruiting Station can provide information.

Barstow Plans Service Flag for Local Servicemen

Barstow residents raise a town service flag to honor local boys now serving in the army and navy. A subscription is underway to buy stars and stripes, and townsfolk are asked to submit names and addresses of Barstow servicemen to the printer.

Santa Fe Red Caps Donate to the Red Cross

The Santa Fe depot porters raised 5.65 dollars by shining shoes on Sunday and donated the proceeds to the local Red Cross chapter. The act underscored a community effort with the remark that every little bit helps. Dr Marlenee announces a Barstow visit to see patients and glasses recipients, noting his wife Mrs Marlenee will accompany him.
