Author of Pittman Act Says It Will Not Be Repealed

Senator Key Pittman of Nevada, author of the Pittman Act, in San Francisco declares the United States will not repeal the act which pays $1 an ounce for silver. He asserts Congress has no intention to violate its word and that a repeal would trigger a filibuster, with four senators capable of speaking for a year to block any vote.

Base Ball Benefit a Success in Barstow

Wesley Barry the freckled star from Mary Pickford films headlined the benefit at Liberty Theatre last Friday. The show raised about 150 dollars for the Barstow Baseball Club treasury as Buck’s Smoke House and the theatre manager organized the event. Matt Moore played a heavily married man in Dont Ever Marry while Barry starred in Dinty. A full house attended Tuesday and Wednesday night, and next Sunday the team plans to defeat San Bernardino.

Water community observes Easter worship on Black Butte

In Water, a sunrise service on Black Butte drew a 15 mile radius crowd by foot and vehicle. The event featured hymns and readings, with plans to make it an annual observance alongside farm bureau activities and local community notices.

Minneola Notes From a Busy Week On the Desert

MINNEOLA Correspondent W H Barbour was the new trustee elected last week. E M Wooldridge filed final proof on his desert claim at San Bernardino on Tuesday March 29. Benj Funcheon traveled to the desert then to San Bernardino as a witness for Wooldridge and returned to Barbor for the winter. The first carload of fuel oil for the season was unloaded at Minneola siding for the Los Angeles Soap Co and Dedo Brothers. M A Webber sold and delivered three truckloads of pigs to Fontana Farms Co at Fontana in two weeks. Residents attended sunrise Easter services at Black Butte. W W Clark and family spent days in Los Angeles last week. Bul Haimut in Los Angeles for weeks receiving treatment for varicose veins underwent an operation recently and was accompanied by his wife, children, and brother. Prof J H Saunders horticulturist, visiting Daggett and Minneola, left for San Diego Saturday. A delegation of youngsters and parents attended the Daggett circus last week.
