On Monday two oil companies the Chicago Association and Ellis Mallory and associates started drilling near Barstow. They are pushing ahead and expect to strike oil within 1,500 feet.
A Los Angeles office note from the North American Petroleum Company outlines plans to finish all 26 derricks before drilling begins, placing one derrick on each quarter section. Mr. Andre is in the field with about 10 or 12 derricks completed, with camp and rapid progress reported as work continues. Kramer Oil Co. still pumps water from its well, which carries some oil. Two cottages and lots on Elm Street are offered for sale by T. G. Nicklin.
