Rich Silver Mine Opens on Desert near Atolia Rand Dist
The Rand Divide Mining Co owner of twelve quartz claims in San Bernardino county near the Kern line along the Santa Fe railroad shipped fifty tons of high grade silver ore from the Juanita claim to Selby Smelting Co. The bond for the claim is from Albert and Paul McCormick of Los Angeles. Local pioneers Williams Kelley and Nosser discovered rich ore along the dyke and plan to lease undeveloped ground. The ore assays from the dyke range 68 to 900 ounces silver with gold from 1.25 to 17.50 per ton. A near town site between Atolia and Johannesburg is laid out to serve mine needs.
